It’s 2am on Saturday night and I am so tired but I don’t want to go to bed.
I spent all of yesterday working on a client’s site. They went two weeks without talking to me and then all of a sudden it’s crunch-time and stuff has to get done and go live the same day. All this w/ no warning and after I invited a friend up to spend the day w/ me. Poor thing had to sit there w/ me all day while I hammered away on the computer. I felt so bad. Oh well, it’s par for the course for owning a web-design business I guess.

Tonight I was obsessed w/ getting a decent (and free) message board working for a different website. This would be for the neighborhood in which I live. I’m on the Homeowner’s Association board and am also the webmaster of the neighborhood’s website. Their web-hosting package does not offer databases, so I was pretty limited as to what I could use for a message board. It came w/ a free one that sucks (looks awful, has NO navigation, and I cannot delete bad posts). And I tred EZ Board but the popups were terrible (some of the ads tried to install software on my computer!) But I got my better half to do some digging and now we’re using Discus. Not only does it look good, but it works on your sever even if you have no database feature, AND it’s FREE. “Free message board!” And me being so anal, I’ve been setting up forums, testing message deletion, and posting for hours. I can’t really tweak the look too much (as far as I can tell), but that’s ok, it looks good as-is.
Overheard at dinner last night: “What’s with the dragons and the oriental stuff?” This was at a CHINESE-JAPANESE restaurant! DUH!
Also overheard by another in the same party: Dumb middle-aged white lady says to the japanese tepanyaki chef at the cooking-table: “You gonna make me some flied lie?” OH MY GOD! NO CLASS AT ALL! I ABOUT FELL OUT OF MY CHAIR! Geezus!
GREAT new show: “Bullshit” W/ Penn and Teller They basically rip-apart stuff like bottled water, creationism, and Feng Shui. It’s a riot.
I’m getting old: I’m getting tired earlier on weekend nights, my back hurts, I get sick more, my stomach makes NEW weird noises, I hear strange sounds coming from the back of my NECK (no, it’s not the voices in my head), and other stuff even *I* wouldn’t blog about. Ugh.
I saw this hysterical bit on The Daily Show w/ John Stewart, it was something like: “children, are they really necessary?” or something like that, w/ the spin of: “I mean, come on!“. It was SO funny and I didn’t tape it. I’m trying to see if they have a video of it on the website.
I NOW HAVE A REASON TO GET OUT OF BED IN THE MORNING! Broadband is FINALLY available in my area! (or so they say, we’ll see if their word is good this Thursday) As soon as I moved out of my mom’s place, dsl became available. As soon as I moved out of my last apartment, cable modems became available. Then we buy this nice big beautiful new house and no broadband. Then cable-modem service became available but the cable company WITHELD THE SERVICE FOR THE LAST FEW MONTHS due to political bullshit w/ the homeowner’s association! F*ckers. >:| But now DSL is supposedly available, and rumor has it that NOW that the cable company has competition, they are going to give in. But they can shove their cable modems up their asses to their teeth cuz of what they did to us, I don’t want to give them my money after that episode (unless the DSL turns out to be vaporware or just plain old shitty).
The reason I’ll believe it when I see it is because I called 4 weeks ago to ask about dsl and they said NO but that they’d send a tech out to test the lines. They tested the lines and called me back to say YEP, NO DSL, YOU’RE TOO FAR FROM THE SWITCH. But now, 4 weeks later, all of a sudden we’re good to go. They did not build a switch in 4 weeks, so either the signal will suck or something else was going on.
But if DSL does indeed get turned on and works good, I am NOT LEAVING THE HOUSE FOR A WEEK! LOL
