Work that body!

Wednesday, July 30th, 2003

M and I need to get a couple pounds off, so we joined a program. At first I thought it was easy, but it’s only easy if you eat home all the time or only at Subway. But you can’t do that every day.

I exercise all the time but it does me no good, so yesterday I started the “couch potato to 5k plan” and I thought I’d die. For real. After the workout I began hallucinating that things in the distance were all moving away from me really fast, and then when I got home the fingers on my left hand were numb. My muscles are sore today. Part of it is the heat, I get sick in the heat real easy. I just don’t know what to do. My regular workouts aren’t enough, but when I kick it up a notch, I’m afraid (literally) that I’m going to drop dead.

I see my nutritionist (who is also a counselor for eating disorders) and see if she has any insight. I already pay for her ($$$$!) plus the weightloss program, I don’t want to have to also pay for a personal trainer and/or a gym, too. I hope there is a solution.

I thought that if I could find an indoor track that is air conditioned, I could try that, but I don’t want to pay out any more money. This whole thing sucks.

New Phone

Wednesday, July 30th, 2003

I may be getting a new cell phone on Friday, one w/ a camera in it. Then I can blog from my phone (I already can) but also send photos to the blog at the same time. I’m looking at the Nokia 3650.

I was going to get my Sony Clie surfing by hooking it up to a BlueTooth-enabled phone, but this is easier and cheaper, to just surf on the phone itself.

Sad

Wednesday, July 30th, 2003

I was watching Dr. Phil on Monday. There’s this lady whose baby was taken away by the state because he was too fat. So then she took all these state-sanctioned parenting classes. She gave birth to a new baby and within 15 hours they took that baby away. They didn’t even give her a CHANCE to prove that she learned how to care for a baby! Any babies that she has in the future will be taken away from her. What is w/ these governments?!? I mean, at least give her a chance, monitor the hell out of her, but at least give her a chance! Geez! Link

What the?

Wednesday, July 30th, 2003

I saw this on our local news two days ago:

paraphrased: “… the defense department is launching a program that allows you to bet on terrorist attacks. It’s called the Policy Analysis Market. People can buy and sell futures, which are based on the possibility of a specific terrorist attack occuring in the middle-east. If the attack happens, you win. Critics, of course, think it’s rediculous. They say it will allow terrorist to profit on their assaults or at the absolute worst lead to terrorists making false bets to try to mislead authorities. Registrations begins on Friday and is limited to the first 1,000 people and actual trading begins on september first.”

What the fuck??? Is this not the most insane thing you ever heard?

I heard something in the car yesterday about it, I THINK the newscaster said they canned the idea but I missed what she said. I went to hit REWIND and realized I was not watching TIVO, but listening to my car radio. I find that the TIVO’s rewind feature of live tv is so handy, I wish for it in real life. I’ll often miss something someone says in a conversation and impulsively reach for the TIVO remote, realizing I can’t do that.

They DO have a TIVO radio, or something similar, I hear. Where is that link…. here it is: www.pogoproducts.com/radio_yourway.html

UPDATE: Oh good, they did can the idea. But just the fact that they went so far as to think it, plan it, and announce it!?!? What a bunch of idiots we have running our country! Plan for ‘terror market’ canceled

Ugh

I don’t know why I have not been blogging that much. No real reason, just… busy, apathetic, tired, going to bed earlier, etc.

MOTHER F*CKERS!

Friday, July 25th, 2003

I FUCKING HATE SPAMMERS! Today I became victim to what I thought was a dictionary email attack, where spammers send thousands of emails to your domain name, starting with: aaron@ abbie@ aileen@ etc etc, going thru a list of thousands of names and possible email addresses like asmith@ bsmith@ csmith@ etc, trying to guess at possible email addresses at your domain. I was getting like 50 emails a minute like that.

But then I noticed that the emails themselves were not spams at all, but bounce-backs, mailer-daemons, etc. Supposedly, somebody is sending out hundreds or thousands of spam emails, spoofing the FROM field as MY domain! (not this one, another domain name I own).

Goddamn mother fuckers!

I had to turn off my catchall and get my hosting company to try to block the IP. They turned it over to the abuse department so that if there are any reprocussions (hate mail from spam recipients, legal notices, etc. being accused of spamming) then they will be able to help me out.

Geez.

Anyone else out there who owns a domain name ever have this happen? THIS SUCKS!

free-cheap hosting

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2003

My friend is looking for free (or cheap) web-hosting for his friend. I am happy w/ my host, but this guy is looking for dirt-cheap or free. Any suggestions?

yadda blah yak

Monday, July 21st, 2003

I hate thinking up titles for blog posts, emails, etc.

I’m tired, but I don’t want to go to bed. I say that alot. But, I slept hard last nigh, then took a nap this evening. I probably slept from 5:30? to 8:30. I’m tired… but sleep again? I should.

I think my kitty missed me. Awwww.

Any ideas of what to do next time I go to Ft. Lauderdale? Anyone from that area? I’m always looking for tech toy stores (like Comp USA), bookstores, sushi bars, ethnic restaurants, shopping, places to take photos (nature places), etc. We’re not much into bars. I loathe the sun but will put up w/ it for certain outings/activities.

Went to a cat show today. It was fun. There were probably more persians there than anything else. I fell in love w/ the “Ragdoll” breed.

I think one reason I don’t want to go to bed is cuz I dread tomorrow. I HATE this one website I am working on (pain in the *ss client wants his pain in the *ss unprofessional design [so what is he paying ME for?!?] ). But I can’t drop him cuz this client is thru the company I am subcontracting for. I dread the emails and phone calls asking how it’s going, why it’s not perfect. If it were MY client (thru my own business) I’d fire him/quit. I don’t need the money and I certainly don’t need the stress. I’m almost not happy to be home!

Day Trip

Friday, July 18th, 2003

We’re going to be heading out tonight to Ft. Lauderdale, we’ll stay over, get up early sat and go to Sawgrass Mills, a mile-long outlet mall, then dinner w/ friends. I’m going to bring my aiptek mini pencam and my sony cybersht dsc-u60.

I HOPE we can get there early enough to go to this Indian restaurant over there that is the “parent restaurant” of our favorite Indian restaurant here in town. But I have no idea if we’ll get there early enough, we may just have to find a 24-hour Denny’s for dinner, yay.

I’ll Cellphone-Blog from the road, probably, but photos will have to wait ’till we get back and I have time. I can get a camera-phone here, but in this area GSM coverage is like 10% and spotty. My friend who has one has to wait about an hour for his text messages to come in, and we all text-message eachother here like MAD so I can’t let that go. So I”m sticking w/ my “old” digital phone until they improve GSM here before I get a camera phone.

Well, gotta go workout.

Catz

Wednesday, July 16th, 2003

I have to take TWO cats to the vet, at the same time, who do not get along. This will be fun!

Netscape 3

Wednesday, July 16th, 2003

Am I the only freak who still loves Netscape 3? I use it for Newsgroups. I love the format (window layout, like email) and it does not require me to wait while it downloads all the newsgroups. I just enter in what group I want and BOOM it’s there. If I wanted to browse or search groups I’d do that at google groups. But once I know what groups I want, it’s the best program I’ve ever used to browse posts, post, etc.

dsc-u60 video

Tuesday, July 15th, 2003

I made a page comparing the video output of the $60 Aiptek Mini Pencam, the $99 Aiptek Pocket DVII digital video camera, and the $250 Sony CyberShot DSC-U60.

I have yet to add a video clip from the aiptek mini pencam because it actually takes such high-res video, that I can’t put it on the web without converting it, and I have not had time to do so. But I plan on it.

But you can see video from the Aiptek DVII and the Sony Cybershot DSC-U60 here.

Cranky

Tuesday, July 15th, 2003

I’m cranky. I have so much work to do on this one client’s website but it’s a real bitch. He wants HIS design (what is he paying me for then?) and matching a novice’s design is way harder than coming up w/ a design from scratch that works. Thank god my ‘boss’ (I own my own business but I also sub-contract for another tech company doing all their web design) is understanding and patient.

But I just sent him (the ‘boss’) and email saying “forget it!” and telling him this job (this particular client) is not worth my sanity.

I dread his reply, but I must stand up for myself. I don’t need the money, but I do need my sanity.

I bought 5 cameras today!

Monday, July 14th, 2003

Some weekends are boring, some aren’t. I had a fun weekend.

I feel accomplished because on Saturday, in spite of wanting to sleep in we got up early and did some work on our storage garage that we are tired of paying for. Sorting garbage from momentos, bagging up clothes for Goodwill, etc. It was hot as HELL, but we made quite a dent.

Friday night was fun: There is this new chinese take-out place nearby (not alot of places nearby) and so we got chinese take-out (cheap) and watched a DVD.

On Saturday we went to the next town to this tepanyaki place (japanese cooking tables). The food is as good if not better than the most expensive japanese steak houses, but it’s just a little hole in the wall. Whenever we go there we always go to Books-A-Million afterwards to browse books (and spend unecessary money). It’s one of my favorite things to do (to go to this restaurant and then the bookstore).

Then today was bargain day! I was on the hunt for pens, got a killer pen at Office Depot that is a pen/pencil/stylus all in one. They also have this super-cool-groovy chair, the “On The Ball Chair”, a chair made of an exercise ball. Too cool!

While there, M walks up to me and what’s in his hand??? An Action Sampler camera from Lomography.com!
thumbnail of action sampler camera
It was on clearance for $10. I flipped out cuz these go for $30 at Lomography.com. So we bought one. But when we checked out it rang up as $5.00!!! I went home, checked it out, decided it was frighteningly flimsy, and decided to back and buy the rest! There were 4 left, so we figured one “spare”, 1 gift, and 2 for either ebay or other gifts. It’s not often you can say you bought five cameras on one day! Hahaha.

I love a bargain. So more bargains. The case and neck strap that you can buy for my new camera (sony cybershot dsc-u60) is $25 at SonyStyle.com, but I got a way-cool strap for $10 and a perfect case for $6! Finding bargains on stuff you already need or want is so fun!

So what else this weekend… oh yeah; we checked out the UU church again. We went to a Forum about the Patriot Act a couple months ago there and it was real interesting. Then we thought we might enjoy the church itself (Unitarian). I sometimes miss having a church to go to, but… oh, I’m not in the mood right now to say much on that subject. But I like this church and the people, and the feel. I hope we go often.

We signed up with NetFlix.com. M is watching Star Wars Attack Of The Clones right now and IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gawd! Hoakey. Predictable. Formula. Childish. Awful.

First Shots

I set my alarm for 8am so as not to miss the FedEx guy. Our doorbell doesn’t always ring and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been home waiting for a package only to find they came and went and I never knew it… finding the package on the doorstep after hours of waiting, or worse: finding a “sorry we missed you” slip telling me that I have to wait until Monday to pick up my package. (For some reason 90% of all my important deliveries come on Friday.)

So, FedEx came at 8:05am and I’m now playing w/ my new toy. (Sony CyberShot DSC-U60) I’m going to have to do something wet this weekend; go to a pool or get rained on. I’ve taken a few test shots in my front yard, as well as a photo showing it’s size compared to the pencam. .:PHOTOS:.

I’m going to meet M for Indian food for lunch. God I love Indian food. It ain’t cheap to go for dinner, but lunch is dirt cheap. I’ll bring the cam w/ me when I go, and maybe there will be some photo ops along the way.

Tired

Friday, July 11th, 2003

I’m so tired. It’s 1:58am. I need to go to bed. I want to stay up and surf because I have not been online much. Tomorrow I have to work on some websites that are pissing me off so I should not be surfing. I don’t get enough surf time anymore. I’m so tired but I don’t want to go to bed. I wish we could stop time. I’d stop time, sleep ten hours, then clean, then read, then surf, then sleep ten hours again and then restart time again. There’s not enough time! Imagine if my life was NOT boring? I’d have even less time! If we had kids life would be more interesting, but I would have less time (and I would be miserable or homicidal or suicidal or all three). doodle doodle dee wubba wubba wubba

Nice

Friday, July 11th, 2003

I wrote a whole post about my new pencam but something happened and now it’s gone. Fuck. Teach ME to stop posting in a text file. I usually write my posts in a text file that I save as I go along. The one time I don’t…

Anyway, I got a refurbished pencam (Aiptek Mini Pencam) because we modded mine one too many times. I’m glad I can take stealth photos again, like of people sleeping in public.

Don’t take vitamins on an empty stomach and go exercising. I did that today and almost threw up all over myself.

Photo Club, fireworks

Friday, July 11th, 2003

So on the 4th, I did a sort of “day in the life” kinda of thing, took a ton of photos, and have yet to organize them and put them online. But I will.

On the 4th we headed to the ballpark for fireworks but there were none.

But when when we got home, our whole neighborhood was ablaze w/ fireworks. The street next to use looked like a warzone: all smoke and lit up w/ all kinds of fireworks.

Then we got to our street and our next door neighbors were out w/ their stash. It’s amazing the cool fireworks you can buy here. So we were out in the street w/ all the neighbors and mosquitoes doing fireworks. It was fun! I took a ton of photos. I have yet to sort through those either.

The ballpark had a sign saying they would do fireworks on the 5th. So we went back on the fifth, parked on the next street (I cannot stomach baseball) and waited for the fireworks that come after the ballgame. That’s where I found out about the photography club. A nice lady came along and she had a camera and we got to talking.

Anyway, the fireworks were a letdown. They usually have AMAZING fireworks after all ballgames. But this time they had very few and none of them were “real” fireworks that went up into the air. The only thing we can think of is that there was an explosion of a truckload of fireworks a few days before that killed 5 people, maybe the ballpark’s inventory was on that truck. That’s really sad, about that explosion. Well, I hope to sort and upload those pix soon.

New Category

Friday, July 11th, 2003

Yay… note the new category! My new (yes, another one) camera comes tomorrow via Fed Ex. The Sony CyberShot DSC-U60.

(Previous posts about it here and here.)

It’s a small, 2mp, waterproof digital camera that has a very quick startup time.

I’m psyched.

Yikes

Thursday, July 10th, 2003

I can’t believe it’s Thursday night and I have not blogged since Sunday. I don’t know what’s wrong w/ me. I just have not been online as much. I feel kinda lacadasical. Like I don’t care. Am I depressed? I don’t know. My life is boring. So I have nothing to write about. I guess boring is good: I mean, no news is good news. It’s better than tragedy in my life. Also, I’ve had alot on my mind and am unsure if I want to blog about it. I feel like I need to journal my thoughts, but… do it here? I don’t know. I had lunch w/ my mom yesterday and we had nothing to talk about. Why? Because my life is boring. “So, what’s new?” …. “uh…. nothing”. My house is a mess, I have websites to work on that are pissing me off, I go for sushi, I go to the grocery store, I watch tv. I try to do stuff, but like tonight was the astronomy club AND the photography club, but I was too tired so I just went to bed for a nap instead of going to either. Geez.
