Still have company this week, until Monday night, so have not had much time to be online. Mostly moblogging than anything else online. So tired. Very frazzled.

Fire moblog

Wednesday, October 29th, 2003

At textamerica.com they have “public” moblogs where anyone can post (email) photos directly from their camera phone, and people often start newsworthy ones (like there was one for the NYC blackout). Someone started one for the california fires, check it out:

moblogging is SUCH an incredible tool!!!!

Man…

Tuesday, October 28th, 2003

Man… I have so much to say but can’t really say it. Too many people from reallife have found this blog. I can’t really open up and vent. The few who have found it, I don’t mind if they read it, those people are all ok (rf, jf, you guys can read this blog, I don’t mind). But because they found it, I know that others might, and it’s them whom I want to censor my words with.

I am having a rough week, and I can’t vent about it here. I started this blog so that I could journal online, in the “anonymity of the internet”… give others some voyeurism into another’s life. But now I feel like I can’t open up. I am so stressed out and I really need to vent. And this is only the beginning of a long week. I need to start another blog under a TOTALLY different name, a TOTALLY different domain, and not even host it at the same site. I need to start over 100% somewhere else. That way I can vent openly and not worry about certain people finding this blog and knowing my secret feelings.

But I love this blog. So I don’t wanna start over. :( Man, I don’t know what to do.

Mon.

Monday, October 27th, 2003

So tired from M snoring & I had to sleep on the futon. Neck muscle spasm in the night that still hurts. In & out of the car shopping all day. Tired.

Happy, compliment

I got a neat compliment today. Ran into a lady who I used to work with & she said I was one of the nicest managers they ever had. :)

I won’t be on the computer much until a week from Monday, as I won’t have alot of time and when I do I’ll be wiped out from hiking, shopping, playing tourist, etc.

I’ll try to blog though.

I will definately be Moblogging alot, that’s for sure.

Maybe I’ll even cell-phone blog as well.

Talk About A Security Hole, Go To Jail?

Friday, October 24th, 2003

Now, this really scares me. I read this on the internet via my cell phone:

“Computer administrator Bret McDanel discovered a security flaw in his company’s software. He warned his managers. They ignored his pleas. So he quit and fired off thousands of e-mails alerting customers to the problem. The vulnerability at Tornado Development Inc. finally got fixed. But McDanel was charged and convicted of causing damage under the federal Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.” Read the whole story at NewsDay.com: here.

This was also discussed on Slashdot,
here (“Talk About A Security Hole, Go To Jail?”)
and
here (“Feds Admit Error In McDanel Security Case”).

I’m glad the feds amitted the error, but it’s still scary because this could happen to any of us.

Update: A few sentances in the Newsday article really bother me;
“McDanel was convicted in a nonjury trial on June 25, 2002.”
Why didn’t he have a JURY trial???
…and,
“Would-be whistleblowers also need to worry about the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which restricts discussion of technology used to protect digital content.”
Restricts discussion of? What ever happened to free speech?
I’m about ready to go build a log-cabin in the wodds and grow my own food and never come back to “society”. Geezus!

A Cirqu Du Soleil -style horse event.

Thursday, October 23rd, 2003

Man, if I lived in Toronto, I would SO be going to this!
(through 11-9)
“Exploring man’s relationship with the horse, Cavalia is a multi-media extravaganza involving more than 60 performers – horses, acrobats, athletes, equestrians and dancers — that features an original score by Canadian composer Michel Cusson. Created by Normand Latourelle, who led the international development of Quebec’s Cirque du Soleil”

The Pet Psychic

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2003

M & I are going to see The Pet Psychic tonight! I’m so excited. It’s in this big performing arts hall so I know I won’t get picked. Also, we have to bring pictures of our animals, we can’t bring the animals. I hope to sneak some cell-phone pix and put them on my moblog while I am there. We’ll see.

I love all this new technology

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2003

I love all the neato technology we have nowadays. My dad was a brilliant scientist but he died in 1989. When my one brother was young, he took him to work (Bell Labs) and showed him one of the first transistors. He said “Robert, I wanted you to see this, this thing is going to change the world!” He was right. Transistors are now thinner than a human hair and in all kinds of things – computers, cell phones, cameras, you name it. I use them every day. And he was in on the ground floor of it all, and now he’s missing it.

Today I was driving around w/ my mom looking for a certain place. I called M to look up an address on the internet for me, but M was at lunch. Then it hit me, I have the internet on my cell phone. I ran a google search, then went to a WAP yellow pages site and was able to get the phone # and address, and then driving directions from the very spot I was sitting at in my car.

Now I’m at home working on a client’s website (and blogging) and I’m listening to The Mix 99.9 in Toronto via the internet even though I’m 2437.6 miles away. (They play the best music!)

I wish my dad could be here to experience all this neato gadgetry which he was in on the ground floor of.

I am not a coke addict

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2003

So yesterday I got Subway for lunch and after I eat I get in my car. I put the diet coke in the cup-holder and realize that the straw is super-long. Gas-station gobble-guzzler long. I can’t shift the car withough scratching my arm on the super-long straw.

So, since I’m super-mega-always-prepared, I have scissors in my glove compartment. (Hey, this is not an airplane.) So I cut the straw down to size so I don’t impale myself on it, and put the straw cutting in my cubbyhole in the dashboard just below the radio.

That’s when it hit me. This is a bad idea. It would be my luck to get pulled over for speeding on a day where I have what looks like coke-addict paraphernalia in my car.

Needless to say, I buried that piece way in the bottom of a bag of snot-rags before heading off into traffic. Diet Coke addict, maybe.

Hahahh – wires

Moblog Fixed

Monday, October 20th, 2003

I need a life. But in all the years I’ve bee online (since ’96) I think that the moblog is one of the coolest things. I broke mine last night and thank god M was able to fix it for me. Yay!

The last week of October

Monday, October 20th, 2003

The last week of October must be a magical week, all the dimensions sing in harmony, the angels sing, and there are a thousand interesting things to do within a short drive of the most boring pocket this state or country has to offer. But it’s also the week M’s parents are here, and I can’t DO A DAMN THING!

The Pet Psychic is coming (going to that), the Moody Blues are coming, it’s Haunted Walk week (haunted nature walk and planetarium shows at my old haunt), Apple is doing a neat seminar, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

I can’t do any of this stuff cuz the inlaws will be here. Why do these things all have to happen during that one week!

Bizarre sequel

Monday, October 20th, 2003

I agree w/ Christine on this one, Sixteen Candles should not have a sequel!

I mean, if it’s done well, yeah, but you know it won’t be. I mean, they can’t even say if the original cast will be in it. Bad idea. BAD IDEA!

Fnck!!!!!!!!

Monday, October 20th, 2003

I fucking broke my moblog and I’m too tired to figure out what I did wrong, fnnnnnnnnk!

Pooped as hell

Monday, October 20th, 2003

I am so tired. We got up early on Sat (after staying up late as usual) and did strenuous work on the garden/house outside. Then we went to a Star Party and didn’t get to sleep until 3:40am. I stay up that late alot, but I did alot of hard work on the house, had no nap, and was out in the cold air moving around for hours. It’s not the same as sitting on the couch w/a laptop in your lap until 3:40am like I usually do.

A star party is where where a bunch of people get together in the dark w/ their telescopes and observe all night. We weren’t going to stay long but then one of my odest friends showed up and once he was there, well, we all stayed late and had a blast.

He and M played w/ their telescopes, there were others there w/ scopes, too. It’s fun ’cause you can share filters, eyepieces, look through eachother’s scopes, etc. This one guy showed up around midnight w/ a real antique, a 1922 HUGE brass telescope. It was so gorgeous.

I brought my camera (Canon D60) and took some great nighttime photos as well as some astronomy photos. Keep an eye out as I hope to upload them soon. I have to find time on top of getting web design work done (everyone needs major changes “done yesterday”!), cleaning the house (M’s parents are coming next Sunday and staying for over a week!), etc. In the meantime there are a few pix on the moblog.

I need sleep!

Hahahah T-shirts

Two-headed snake

What’s the word?

Wednesday, October 15th, 2003

What’s the word I am looking for….

If “re-gifting” is taking an item that was given to you as a gift and wrapping it up and giving it to somebody else as a gift…

And if “indian giver” is somebody who gives you gift and then takes it back…

Then what do you call it when someone gives you a gift and the only reason they gave it to you was so that they could use it when they visited? I wonder what that’s called.

HaHAHAHA
