My head is going to explode
My head is going to explode.
My new mp3 player, as much as I love it is being a pain in the ass. Besides my original complaints about it playing back in what amounts to random order, now there’s this:
Click below to read more…
If you plug it into my new XP laptop it tries to map a drive letter already in use, so every sing time you have to go into Control Panel and manually assign it a drive letter, every sing time.
If you plug it into my PC, it kills the USB port the second you plug it in, every single time.
If you plug it into M’s PC, the computer freezes up, every single time.
Ok,
then,
I’m trying to listen to a book-on-cd that I ripped to MP3.
The player only displays the ID3 Tag, NOT the filename.
So, since the files are named 00, 01, 02, 03, etc…
and since the ID3 tags are so long that they get cut off…
and since all the ID3 tags are the same except for the last few characters that get cut off…
…you have NO WAY of knowing which track you are listening to, or where you left off last time you were listening.
Oh yeah, it’ll SAY “track 41″, but all that means is that it’s the 41st track on the player. It’s REALLY track 38, file 038, the 38th file that makes up the book.
But since all you see is an ID3 tag that looks like all the other ID3 tags, you have no idea where you were last listening.
Yeah, the player remembers what file you were on. But here’s the thing-
I only have so much room, so before I go to the gym, I delete the files I’ve already listened to, and tack on new ones to the end.
This changes the DISPLAYED track number. I WAS listening to the 41st track on the player, which is really file number 038. But now that file is, say, the 50th track, and since it only displays ID3 tags, I have NO IDEA what to do!
I love this player cuz it’s tiny, sounds great, is sporty, yadda yadda yadda, but I’m wondering if this thing is going to have to go back to the store.
I love it though!
Oh, and yes, between M and I we’ve downloaded I think FIVE programs in the last hour trying to batch-rename files, trying to batch-change ID3 tags to match the file names, you name it. No go.
fuckity fuck fuck fuck.
Somebody send me an iPod.
