For me?

Tuesday, May 11th, 2004

Will you buy me a new house? I LOVE my house. But today, just for shits and giggles, I went by a new development to inquire about a house I saw while biking on Saturday. It’s very much like ours, 2-story, etc. Ours is 4 bedroom, about 2400 square feet, but this one, if we got the bonus room over the garage, would be over 4,000 square feet. I don’t need a new house, and I love my house. But boy, if I had the money, I’d upgrade to this. A den downstairs, 4 bedrooms upstairs, a sitting room in the bedroom, plus optional bonus room and dual upstairs-downstairs screened-in porch. It’d only be about $400,000. *cough*

Weird

Monday, May 10th, 2004

I don’t get it. I’ve been getting odd emails from the website that was set up for my brother who passed away recently. Someone emailed me last week and said “Why?”. Why run a site for a deceased person. Well, if this person had READ the website they’d know why. Don’t email the sister of the deceased and ask WHY. This person was disconcerted because my brother’s nickname was the same as this person’s “screenname”. Next thing I know I’ll be getting legal letters from some asshole wanting that dot-com for himself. Leave my grief alone.

And then I get another email today from someone who thought she knew him. She described a person other than my brother, and mentioned parents names, etc. It seems odd to me, because my first impulse was to say “no, he grew up in THIS state and had SO-IN-SO and SO-IN-SO as parents“. THEN I realized that that kind of personal information could be used to take over his identity. People steal the identity of the deceased all the time. I won’t contribute to my brother being violated in that way. Perhaps this person was genuine, but I have to be careful. In any event, anyone who steals HIS identity is in for a big shock: lots of debt, worst credit in world history, it’d be a useless endeaver. It’s ashame that in this day and age I even have to worry about such things.

I don’t know why, but all this has me feeling really bothered.

Internet Babylon

Sunday, May 9th, 2004

Got this book today, looks neat:
“Internet Babylon: Secrets, Scandals, and Shocks on the Information Superhighway”

I can’t sit anymore, my butt really hurts. I’ll take the book to bed but I know I’ll fall asleep before page 3.

Dribble

Sunday, May 9th, 2004

I can’t read/concentrate when people on the nearby tv are talking. Is it just me?

Note to self: Read this article later on (via slashdot).

Ow

Sunday, May 9th, 2004

My ass is sore. We biked for two and a half hours. Thank god it’s not summer in the south yet. I’d be sick in bed if it was. I’m heat intolerant. But today was nice and the only side effect is my skin feels sunburned (but it’s not, weird) and a sore ass.

Then took a nap as freaking telemarketers made sure I only got 5 hours of sleep last night.

After that we went for Thai food and then to the bookstore.

Oh, we put in the DVD “Anger Management” and turned it off after probably less than 30 minutes. Who can sit thru a 2 hour movie of scene after scene of a person being persecuted for something he didn’t do? For being calm? For doing nothing wrong? A string of impossible situations and unrealistic plots. Stupid. Farts. Slapstick. Stupid. Stupid Americans love this shit.

(Update: No offense if you are american and liked the movie. I’m not saying that you are stupid. I’m just saying that american comedy is getting less and less sophisticated and one does not need to be cultured or educated to “get” today’s american comedy.)

Speaking of stupid americans…

I’m ashamed to be an American right now. I’m AFRAID of being an American right now. What we are doing- what our president is doing in Iraq, is going to cause US to get hurt. Does he really think that people won’t retaliate? I am so afraid that are going to be victims of more and worse terrorism. M and I were going to travel to Europe sometime soon and now I’m scared to death to go. More and more people all over the world are becoming american-haters because of what Bush is doing. I didn’t vote for him. I don’t support what he’s doing. But I’m hated, I will be hated if I travel outside of the US. I may be hurt or killed by terrorists on my own soil. No, I’m not falling for the stupid F-U-D that the press and govt’ is spreading with it’s “terror alerts”. No. I’m just saying that Bush and our army is doing BAD stuff and logic says that people will retaliate and I’m worried about being an American now. Thanks alot, Bush.

Comcast Fires TechTV Staff

Friday, May 7th, 2004

I can’t stop crying. Yes, CRYING!
“Comcast Fires TechTV Staff”
From Slashdot:
“Bocaj writes “Looks like it’s curtains for TechTV staff. A Leo Laporte article says that Comcast has let the entire staff go. ‘Per the WARN Act (governing plant closings) all the employees of TechTV have been given 60 days notice. The San Francisco operation will be shuttered by July. 100 of the existing jobs will be posted for those willing to relocate to LA.’ No word on what will happen to all the shows or the channel.” Go to slashdot article.

Can’t anything be done?!? Why? WHY?

Perhaps I’ll go on a HUNGER STRIKE. I need to go on a diet anyway.

Grrrr

Thursday, May 6th, 2004

Nothing like having a whole list of things you want to do in the evening only to spend the whole night fighting w/ virus-originated spam and a browser that crashes every time you try to DO anything!

technology is wonderful, technology is great.

Gettin’ madder by the hour

Thursday, May 6th, 2004

Nothing like being just about to hit “submit” on ordering a new domain and having your computer go all wonky and have to reboot thus having to go ALL thru the process again.

Nothing like rebooting and then not being able to hit any sites cuz your DNS decided not to work properly.

Nothing like going thru a second purchase only to have your browser crash JUST as the purchase goes thru so you’re not really sure if the fucking thing went or NOT!

F*ckers

Wednesday, May 5th, 2004

Uh…

I love how when you go to register whatever.com at network solutions, then realize that it’s cheaper to do it somewhere else, then all of a sudden the domain is “not available”, even though there is no match when you do a “whois” lookup and it was available a MINUTE AGO!

Fuck!

Wednesday, May 5th, 2004

I have fucking had it with people! People REFUSE to use their brain. PEOPLE STOP USING MICROSOFT PRODUCTS! Stop using security-hole-ridden outlook and outlook express!!!

I try SO HARD to stay SPAM FREE and now I’m BOMBARDED with junk email because some ASSHOLE has a virus on their computer which is cultivating email addresses from their email program address book and bombarding me with shit emails!

People, stop using unreliable email software, start using better email software, run virus protection software, and keep it updated!!!!!

Dear god, what next.

Wednesday, May 5th, 2004

Now I’m mad!!! I’m now getting SMS SPAM on my cell phone! I never display my phone’s number or email address and it seems that some person is guessing at phone numbers. F*ckers!

Free shell account

Wednesday, May 5th, 2004

Neat free thing from Kevin’s “dark tips” at The Screen Savers (link):
A free telnet shell account, an acct on a unix server, to learn about shell scripts, or scripting, ftp servers, or anything re. Unix, just telnet to:
open nova.hbx.us
login using the login new/new, pick a user name and password.
They give you email, ftp, ssh, telnet, smtp, finger, httpd, full access. free. So you can learn about Unix (actually Fee BSD).
It’s the HBX Free Shell Project.
Thanks Kevin!

Buzznet

Wednesday, May 5th, 2004

I’m checking out Buzznet.com. It’s a “Photoblog Community”. You can upload photos from your computer or, you can upload pix from your cell phone like you can do w/ Textamerica.

Now, bottom line is there’s NO better moblogging community or service than textamerica.com.

If you want to upload larger, higher-res photos, to create a more traditional “photoblog”, Buzznet.com might be neat.

I’m still trying it out. I like the layout / interface / design. I would not replace my moblog w/ it. Nope. Textamerica is the best tool / community for that.

It might be nice for photoblog purposes. I was wanting to set up a movable type photoblog as part of this site, used for just certain photos. I’m still going nuts w/ CSS bugs (or a bug in my BRAIN!), and am tempted to use textamerica or buzznet instead. This way, it’s automated, it’s done, no CSS tweaking. But then u have to deal w/ ads.

Check it: laserone.buzznet.com

“Philip Doyen receives between 10 and 20 phone calls a week to “Vent-Line,” a service he launched in February that allows callers to blow off steam — at a price.” …article…

I don’t think this guy is doing anything wrong. I think it’s pretty funny!

OK, I got that from M. I can’t claim it as mine. :)

Nothing new

Monday, May 3rd, 2004

Weird. It’s been like two days since I’ve really been on the computer. Not sure why. M’s had a cold and Sunday we sat in the dark all day watching movies and Tivo. Then today I slept in and didn’t do much and fell asleep on the couch. It’s been raining too. Yesterday the only time I checked email was on my Clie waiting for breakfast at 4pm.

I’ve watched Kal Ho Naa Ho twice now, I bought the DVD at the recent Festival of India. If you like a good romance flick, check it out. It’s LONG, has subtitles, but is well done. The second half of the movie I have to have a box of Kleenex w/ me. It’s like the movie takes your heart and wrings it out w/ two hands.
