Stuff and stuff

Saturday, December 18th, 2004

Yay my cold is gone. It pretty much lasted less than a week.

Thursday was my day off and BOY was I tired. I slept in and then played on the computer and then later on was so tired I thought I’d pass out but I had to get showered and out to dinner w/ m, mom, aunt. I think that the more sedentary you are in a day, the more tired you get.

Riley is fine after his scare. He’s still not a great breather, but he’s a pug, so that’s normal. I just hope he’s normal for a pug. He may need surgury to help him breathe, we just don’t know yet.

Retch!

Monday, December 13th, 2004

Somone on a message board found this:

http://www.candyboots.com/wwcards.html

It’s old (and inane!) Welght Watchers cards.

From the site:

“Once upon a time the world was young and the words “mackerel” and “pudding” existed far, far away from one another.

One day, that all changed. And then, whoever was responsible somehow thought the word fluffy would help.

Oh, and eggs, too. “

Damn. Sick w/ another cold.

For 2 days I felt SO weak and low energy I was really worried, but now I know it was just my body trying to fight this damned cold off.

My body lost.

Faucet-nose, dizzy, weak, sweaty, tired, congested. Sux.

Cesar Millan can change the behavior of ANY dog, he is truly amazing! I learned alot about raising my dog by watching him.

Don’t do it

Wednesday, December 8th, 2004

Don’t believe everything you read, especially via email.

Most of those alarming email forwards are FALSE. And even if it looks authentic, never believe any emails from the bank, pay pal, ebay, aol, earthink, you name it, saying that you have to go to their website to ‘verify’ your account info or personal info. NEVER do it. They’re false, fraudulent emails designed specifically designed to STEAL your personal info.

If you are ever in doubt about an email that you get, check snopes.com. They research and verify or debunk stories that are circulated via email forwards. You can go to snopes.com and do a search for “verify account information” or some such thing, and see TONS of reports.

Don’t believe everything you read. If you want to believe it, check snopes.com first. And NEVER give out your personal info! Even if the site LOOKS authentic! Don’t click on the links in the email.

Puppyhood and the art of Photography

Wednesday, December 8th, 2004

My photography has gone to shit since I got the dog. It’s amazing, but I have taken not a SINGLE photo except puppy pictures since I got him.

Having a puppy is very time consuming. They are very demanding… of attention, of cleanup, you name it.

I couldn’t wait for fall so that I could go ‘photo-ing’ without getting heat stroke, but now I have the dog and I’m always out on walks w/ him and I can’t really (can’t easily) bring my nice (big) camera w/ me when I have the dog. And if I have time to drive to a nature preserve w/ the good camera, it’s time I should really be taking the dog to the dog park, or staying home taking care of him.

I sorta can’t wait ’till he’s grown and doesn’t have to go outside to potty every 2-3 hours. I’d just like to take a day and go to a nature presever w/ the camera.

I guess I CAN. But I just don’t. Puppyhood is a bitch. Sometimes I wish I got an adult dog. I know that one day I’ll look back and miss his puppy days, so I’m trying not to take him for granted right now. That’s kinda why I do spend more time at the dog park then at the nature preserve w/ the camera.

Audible

Wednesday, December 8th, 2004

Ok, there is a god! I called Audible and explained about all the problems over the year and they actually reinstated me for the missed books. NOW I can finally say that Audible DID come thru for me and really helped me out. NOW I am a happy customer. They can only do it once, so I have to be sure do download my credited books before it expires. It was just such a mess that before they just could not, in spite of hours on the phone w/ them, get me up and running on the clie, and then some lady there gave me totally wrong and false info on the ipod which lead to me not using it or listening to books. I found out on my own that the lady was dead wrong and had caused me to miss books because of her false statements. They understood and reinstated my book credits. Thank you Audible. :)

I hate Audible.com. I am on hold w/ them right now, and I am just SO sure they won’t help me. I signed up w/ them in April to get a special discount on an ipod mini. That was a disaster in itself. But since April, I have only been able to download 4 books, instead of 9. This in SPITE of multiple tech suppot calls. I’m calling them today to beg for them to give me some book credits to make up for the 5 lost due to technical problems. I know they won’t, I just know they won’t. They have not been helpful to me ONCE and I have spent LITERALLY hours w/ them on hold since April.

Thinking

Wednesday, December 8th, 2004

I’ve been thinking about blogging and photography.

When I first started this blog, I did alot of posting photos from that day and commenting on them, and not photography photos necessarily, but just photos from the road of shit that pissed me off. Well, also photography. But anyway, what happened was when the moblog came along, it took away about 50% of the purpose of this blog. I never could really send photos to THIS blog from the cell phone and have them be sized right w/ thumbnails, etc. I think it can be done w/ MT, but it was just easier to get set up w/ textamerica.com and do it that way, no muss, no fuss. But then half of my blogging mind was there instead of here.

Now I think I can send photos from my cell phone to this blog using flickr. But I am not sure if it’s easy, and not sure if I’ll bother.

It’s just funny how over time things, even blogs, change.

That, and the fact that my life is freaking boring, leads to me feeling guilty that my blog is not nearly as active as it has been in the past. Maybe I just need a life.

Stuff: Catching Up

Wednesday, December 8th, 2004

Went to a Linux meetup tonight. (Find one in your area! http://linux.meetup.com) Techie meetups are always fun. Even if you’re not talking Linux, it’s fun conversation. Techie minds are more fun. I love a gathering where most talk is techie of one sort or another. Last night: programming, databases, space elevators, satellite orbits, satellite tv, pda’s, cameras, etc.

Not much is really new. My house is a mess and I’m trying to get it clean before I go freaking mad.

I’m tired all the time but that is nothing new.

My puppy is great. He’s kinda psycho tho’. He drives me nuts sometimes.

I hate the world and I hate people, but then sometimes I go nuts trying to help people and they don’t even freaking care and I wonder why I do it. Like when people blindly spread false alarming email forwards. I try so hard to explain that it’s false, why it’s false, find and share links to news stories or snopes.com articles proving that it’s false. And what for? The people never go “oh thanks, you saved me from giving out my personal info!” No, they just write back and try to argue that the news articles are wrong, and that snopes is wrong, because a friend of a friend of a cousin told her it WAS true and why do I always have to stir up trouble? People are so stupid. It’s amazing that people fall for these false rumors, these fraudulent emails from their banks and pay pal etc. Why do I try to spread education? Why? People WANT to be ignorant, it seems.

YAAAaaawn!

Hahah, M. found this:

Emilie’s Don’t Yawn Game

woo hoo whoopie…

M just became an Uncle for the first time today. I’m scouring the internet and I just can’t find the perfect card! I’m looking for one that says “Congratulations on your new baby, better you than me!” but they just don’t exist!

Whew!

Friday, December 3rd, 2004

Ok, nevermind re. my earlier post about the site and email possibly being down at some point over the weekend. I decided to go with a different upgrade package at my hosting company, one which will mean that I stay on the same physical servers, which means no backing up and re-uploading of files or having to point the domain name to new servers. So there will be NO downtime for the websites or email. Whew!
