Pool Shoes

Thursday, March 31st, 2005

When my in-laws were down, we went shoe-shopping (a ritual each time they visit) and I heard, but didn’t go to see, that they had a water aerobics shoe for sale in the store.

It just blows my mind that they make a water aerobics shoe.

It’s made by Ryka, here’s the link:

www.ryka.com/aqua.asp

I guess if I did water aerobics, I’d be glad to have that shoe. But it just took me by surprise. And when I looked at the shoe online, it was much more like a regular sneaker than I expected. I guess I expected something more like the $4.99 beach shoes you get at the drugstore in the summer time, like these:

There’s a pool in our community that I can use for free, but I never do. I should really consider using it this summer… I mean, it’s free, why don’t I?

Transparent Desktop

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

Wow, this is wild. I use Flickr and I really love it. Flickr has inspired all kinds of communities and tag-related groups. The newest thing is the “transparent desktop” thingy, where people take a photo of their desktop, make it the wallpaper on their computer, and try to match it up to the real background, making the monitor appear transparent. Lots of people are trying their hands at it, check it out:

This has also been mentioned on SlashDot.

The mind wanders

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

You know how your mind just wanders sometimes? I was walking The Pug yesterday when a cable van pulled up to a construction port-a-potty and the driver got out of the van, left it running, and got into the very wobbly port-a-potty.

My first thought, “I could totally steal that cable van, but what would I do with it?”

My second thought, “What if that port-a-potty tips over?”

Thoughts of, Would the guy get hurt? Would the guy get covered in sewage? Would I have to offer him my shower? Would he get sewage on my carpet?

All these things fly thru my mind in less than 5 seconds. The wandering mind (especially mine) is very strange. Why can’t my mind come up with cures for cancer or time-travel in it’s spare time instead of this kind of crap?

Early Chatting

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

I had a realization today. When I was 13 [around 1983], I had a Texas Instruments computer, I think it was this one:

At the time, my “boyfriend” (We were 13, we held hands, and went rollerskating) and I decided to have a discussion via the computer. He’d type stuff in when I was out of the room, then we’d switch places, and then I’d type replies, etc etc.

It hit me today that this was some very primitive form of computer chat, of instant message. It’s kinda funny when you think about it.

The Infinite Cat Project

Sunday, March 27th, 2005

Oh, THIS is cool!

Thanks to Chandra’s Realm for pointing out this site:

InfiniteCat.com

” It all began innocently enough when a user on an Apple help web site posted a picture of his cat, Frankie, contemplating the beauty of a flower. Shortly afterwards another user posted a picture of his cat bristling at the image of Frankie on the monitor. I decided this was too much fun and advanced the concept as The Infinite Cat Project which is, simply, cats regarding cats regarding cats in an electronic melieu. “

MUST check this out, it’s really neat!

Happy Easter

Happy Easter!

Please log on…

Sunday, March 27th, 2005

Maybe it’s just me. But I got laughing so hard I had to hang up the phone.

We were at mom’s tonight trying to get her DSL back up and running. I called the tech support line cuz she forgot her login info. While navigating the menu system, I heard:

“Residents in [whatever town] are experiencing DSL outtages and have no internet connection. We are aware of the problem and are working on it. No estimated reconnection time is available. For more information, log on to www.sprint.com slash blah blah blah…

Hello? Is it just me or is that absolutely hysterical?!? “We know your internet connection is down, please go to our website for more info!” Agh! HAHAHAHA!

Tiring Saturday

Sunday, March 27th, 2005

I’m frickin’ tired. The Eskie woke our butts up at 7:30 this morning and then we ran around all day and it was SO hot out. The news said it was only 85 today, but it felt like summer when it’s in the mid to upper 90′s! Very humid, my jeans felt like wet sacks hanging off me.

We took The Pug and went to Home Depot, then PetSmart, then Petco, then to Crispers for lunch, then to Coldstone Creamery for ice cream, then home.

Days like this it seems I can’t get cool enough. I can’t get enough of cold air blowing in my face from fans or the a/c. I hate the heat. I should NOT be living in the south. Ack!

Internet Connection

Friday, March 25th, 2005

Today our Cable Modem connection was terrible, all day. We still have DSL too, so we switched over and it’s much better.

I went to DSL Reports and ran a speet test on cable and then on dsl after we switched over.

(click for image)

What’s interesting is that the download on the screwed-up cable was faster than the better dsl (today dsl is better), but upload was what was bad. Even sending page requests, etc., was bad enough to make surfind painfully slow.

Increase blog traffic

Thursday, March 24th, 2005

How does one increase the readership of their blog? Supposedly a good way to increase blog traffic is to sign up with Blog Explosion. I use it. I enjoy surfing blogs through there, I’ve found some interesting ones.

Another way to get more blog readers supposedly is to join up with Blog Clicker. I have not tried them yet, so I don’t know how it really effects blog traffic.

Blogazoo is another website that’s supposed to help you increase weblog traffic. I have not tried them yet either.

Mainly I blog for myself, for fun, to vent, to rant, to reflect, to remember dates and events, and to catalog links I might want to find later. But I have to admit it is nice when you know that others are reading what you write. Even if it’s just a few. I enjoy reading other people’s blogs. I don’t claim to be interesting or groundbreaking. But I like peeking into other people’s lives, maybe some other people want to peek into mine. :)

What is that pink cam?

I saw a lady using this camera at an event this past weekend, but I never got a chance to ask her what it was. Does anyone know what kind of camera this is?

Weird Dreams

Thursday, March 24th, 2005

I keep having weird dreams. Lately they have been long, drawn out, very involved dreams. Dreams about alternate universes, dreams about people, restaurants, places. I keep dreaming about my brother who died a year ago January. My whole life I keep having dreams about my childhood home. I’m kind-of obsessed w/ my childhood home. But it seems I’m not the only one.

I had a talk w/ a girlfriend and she’s the same way. Thinks about it, dreams about it, visits it when she can.

I had another dream about that house again last night. Nothing worth putting into words, but the dreams are SO real.

I bought The Sims 2 and so far, 90% of the time that game is loaded, I’m just re-building homes in build mode: my childhome, my current home, etc.

Homes are important I guess, I mean, the houses, they house our lives. Idunno… my dreams are weird.

Bluetooth Headsets

Thursday, March 24th, 2005

M surprised me and got me a bluetooth headset for my phone. The thing actually hurt my ear quite a bit (a Plantronics one), so I tried his (a Jabra one) and it was MUCH better.

It’s so comfy that I actually wore it the whole time I was out and about yesterday, on the road, in stores, etc.
