EEEE!!!!

EEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!! I got it! =:D

We just got back from the other coast w/ our new Subaru Outback! I’m so psyched. It drives really nice, is a sport shift so I can easily put in a remote start and shift when I want yet slide into auto during traffic jams… it’s all wheel drive, has room for the dogs, the bikes, the telescope, camera gear (if I ever get my lighting kits and backdrops)… I can drive when come which means *I* can open the windows WHEN (not IF) they fart in the car and I won’t fall asleep at the wheel and slam on my brakes at green lights like M’s dad does… I can drive around w/ more than one passenger (mom, friends, etc.). They even had the color I wanted. We got a STEAL too. There was one that was only a month old and then returned by the owner so it was like new but mega-discounted- but they sold it after we talked to them about it so they offered us pretty much the same price on a brand spankin’ new one. The new one I was looking at was $30k, the sticker on this one was over $26k, and we got it for $21. I’m psyched. Seems weird not to have a sports car: my first car was a mustang and then two eclipses. But we also have the Nissan 350Z and down the road we plan to look for a used eclipse or MR2. Anyway, it’s really nice and am looking forward to tooling all around town in it tomorrow. Will prob head right over to the car stereo place to see if they can put an aux cord in so I can listen to my ipod.

Monday Babble

Tuesday, August 16th, 2005

I’m working on making a folder of my very best photos. I have SO many photos online that when I want to show a new person my photography, I’m not sure where to send them. I’ve sent people to my online galleries and had them say “oh, there were just SO many photos, I didn’t look at that many“, so they may have missed my very best photos. So I’m sorting and making one difinitive collection to send people to if they want just a quick look.

Today I met w/ a lady from the Unitarian Church again. She’s really nice. Down here in Florida you have to get along with all ages or you’ll find yourself alone. Some 73 year olds are really with it! This lady has a camera even more complex than mine and she’s doing really well with it. My mom is 73 and uses a Palm Pilot, a computer, downloads music (rock n roll no less!), emails, surfs, you name it.

Went to Olive Garden tonight. M and I always make fun of it but they have this dish that is to DIE for, the Steak Gorgonzola Alfredo Pasta which has steak in it which is as tender as freakin’ filet mignon and has this FLAVOR that I just can’t place. It’s so good (and so fattening).

I’m keeping up w/ the news and talking about it alot w/ _M_, but by the time I get around to blogging it’s old news, and I hate being one of those bloggers that talks about yesterday’s news.

I’m searching for a Subaru Outback wagon. I love that car, I always have. That and the Eclipse are my favorite car. If I replace my eclipse w/ an Outback, I’ll eventually get a used Eclipse since I really love the older body style better than the newer body style anyway [although the newEST body style is awesome!]. That, or M might get a used MR2. But either way we’ll keep the Z cuz that’s like, the ultimate. :)

Anyway, the Outback I want new is like $30k. But I’d be ok w/ like a 2 year old one, but we found a couple new ones at a discount cuz they were probably Dealer Demos or something. Those are the best if you can find them (my family is in the car business, too bad they don’t sell Mitsus or Subarus).

Why an Outback? I hate sport utes and I want 4 wheel drive and the ability to put people in the back seat. Sometimes we drive my mom around and M’s Z has no back seat and my back seat is a death trap. Your head is about touching the glass and metal above. I knew a girl in high school who was asleep in the back of a jeep and the jeep hit a bump or something. She got slammed against the roll bar above her head and she died. That’s nuts!!! So when I got in my back seat recently, I realized it’s REALLY tight. So sometimes we drive my mom around, but ALSO… duhhhh du dun dun duuuuunnnnnnn!!!!!!!!

See, when they come down, which is usually about 4x a year, they have to drive because we effectively have no back seats. So they drive the rental and they can’t work all the buttons and usually the windows are LOCKED and the FART in the car with the WINDOWS SHUT. Also, the dad in law falls asleep at the wheel, crosses the line into oncoming traffic and slams on his brakes at green lights… EVERY VISIT.

So, I’ve wanted a car that’ll handle passengers for a long time. I hate sport utes and gas guzzlers. The small sport utes are cute but they’re a dime a f*cking dozen. If I see one more of these I’m going to freaking scream! I don’t want to be a sheep. The 4wd wagon is 4wd, takes passengers (moms and inlaws), telescopes, photography equipment, the dogs, won’t get stuck in the sand when geocaching, etc.

Idunno, it’s late, I’m babbling.

Ok, since beginning this post, I’ve finished my Portfolio of best photos: ..::PHOTOS::..

old

Monday, August 15th, 2005

I feel like I’m getting so OLD. I don’t feel my age. I feel… 21… some days I feel 16. But I know I’ve been on the planet a long time. I’m doing a high-speed surf thru some images on flickr, and as I go thru I can recognize places just by nuances. I can tell Toronto from a very zoomed-in close-up on a building, and I even guess the building right. I can recognize Florida, which is depressing.

The show “six feet under” is utterly depressing but at least things are HAPPENING now as it winds down for good. Tonight was a lot of “everybody you know is going to die” (yeah I know)… “My brother just died!” (yeah, me too)… ‘as you get older there are LESS people around you, not more’ (I wonder about that alot)…

I feel young inside, but at the same time I’m feeling my age. It’s easier to gain weight, I’m tired all the time, people around me are all dying, I leak tears every day just about because I’m scared about how old my mother is. Yeah, but this is what happens when you watch sappy movies into the wee hours I guess.

Blah blah sunday night

Monday, August 15th, 2005

Where did the weekend go? And how did it get to be almost 4am?

I stayed up watching a movie.

We stayed up late each night then slept in, and today I even took a nap, and I wonder why it’s 4am and I’m not tired.

TWiT #18 is out but it’s still downloading. I’ll get a copy uploaded for sharing probably Monday morning, although it’s easy enough to get now: To get TWiT episodes, go to www.twit.tv to get the mp3 or the torrent, or http://feeds.feedburner.com/twit-hib, http://twit.tv/hi-b, or go into iTunes (the new version) and subscribe to the podcast.

We didn’t get to the Unitarian Church this weekend. We stayed up too late, and we skipped the last Wednesday night social because it involved dancing. Ugh. But tomorrow I meetup w/ a lady from there again. I’m helping her w/ her camera and photography.

We went to a geocaching meetup Friday night and there was a big geocaching thing on Saturday too, but it’s so hot out I just couldn’t face it. Also, M had to log in to work at 6 am after like 2 hours sleep, so it just wasn’t going to work out, which was fine w/ me cuz it’s so damned hot out.

A watch under a pile somewhere just beeped, so it must be 4am. I ought to go to bed.

Friday night

Saturday, August 13th, 2005

Well I didn’t take the Allegra D 24 today and I feel totally normal again! The drug website says that less than 3% of ppl have side effects that I had, yet if you hit google you can see that lots of people have reported the same side effects I did.

My crazy pink iPod skin came today.

We went to the geocaching meetup and that was cool. The food was better than I thought it would be (El Golden Corral Buffet) and the people were nice. There’s a big geocaching gathering tomorrow outside during the day in a park. Sounds like a heatstroke freaking nightmare. I’d like to go except for the heat. Not sure, not sure. The heat makes me SICK.

We’d been walking every night w/ our neighbors. The guy next door is REALLY nice, and he likes food as much as I do, so we’re walking together as a group (his family and dog, M and I and our dogs) and it’s been great to get the extra exercise in. But it’s so hot you just wouldn’t believe it. Even after sundown it’s so humid your sweat doesn’t evaporate and you can’t breathe. The dogs pant for over an hour after returning. It’s funny cuz this one neighbor saw us coming and said we looked “intimidating as a group coming at ya”, lol. Let’s see, 4 adults, 2 kids, 3 dogs (one growling and screaming like a psycho monkey).

M is upstairs in the computer room right now trying to get OSX working on his PC. He got it off digg but I’m not sure which link. I just know it was a bit torrent file.

I’ve been bad about reading and the cat is staring at me. She likes the living room and I ought to go sit in there and read with her. We even have library books that are overdue.

My day

Friday, August 12th, 2005

Been spaced out for days, Dr said Allegra D 24 was non-drowsy, but it makes me sleep when I’m still, and when I’m not still it makes me spaced out, drugged up feeling. Think I’ll take a day off from it tomorrow to see if I’m better, I’m sure I will be.

The Pug had fun today, he got to go to M1ckyDeees for french fries, then the dog bakery, then to see M at work, then to Petco. He loves car rides! Lots of pix on the moblog, see sidebar.

La la la. M started a huge-ass download before he went to bed and now the ‘net is slow. Guess I’ll go watch tv or read or something. It’s only 2am.

Car Ride

Thursday, August 11th, 2005

I think I’ll take The Pug for a car ride. He LOVES car rides. I suppose we’ll drive thru Mc Donals (fries for him, grilled chicken salad for me) and then maybe the dog bakery. Check moblog! :)

WhoooooOOOOooooa

Thursday, August 11th, 2005

Whoa. I just woke up from the most FREAKY F*CKED UP VIVID STRANGE nap/dream experience!

I didn’t feel good earlier when we went out for dinner, nausious, then gurgling gut, then headache, then more digestive problems. So I came home, took two aspirin and went to bed for a “nap”.

I had such strange bizarre vivid dreams, like nothing I ever had. Only a few dream exeriences in my life have ever stood out and this will probably be one of them. I can’t begin to write all that was in it. Real people, ficticious people, dead people… death, horror, perverted sex, embarassment, fear, video-game-like graphics, epic-movie-like characters and scenes. Fish ‘n chips, garlic bread, white chocolate reeses cups. Time travel, priests in undershirts, christmas, halloween, old friends, people from tv. Mystery death and disappearance. I saw her but she was not dead this time, but she was drunk. I don’t like to think of her as drunk. So then I went to the drug store for some candy and when I got back she was not drunk and never had been and was so beautiful. He wasn’t dead either, and he got mom the most beautiful christmas tree. Z kitty wasn’t dead either, and he’s been in alot of my dreams lately.

Then when I woke up I laid there with my eyes closed and I could see these insane patterns like when you smush your eyeballs with your hands. Circles intertwines, spinning, patterns, crazy.

I thought maybe the restaurant put lsd in the food. Even after I got up I saw things moving that weren’t.

At some point early in my nap M came in to see if I was alright and I said “What’s cooking?” cuz I thought I smelled the stove on and he said “no it’s insence”. Later I found it was Nag Champa from the Indian grocery store. I wondered out loud if that had anything to do w/ my crazy dreams since it’s such a special, traditional incense. So then I got online and sure enough, some websites say that nag champa does cause “vivid dreams”. Weird!

Mold?

Tuesday, August 9th, 2005

Oh, and the entire house (not even 4 years old) smells like mold. We’ve had so many leaks[*] and now today it rained as usual (it rains EVERY day here in the summer) but it’s like the straw that broke the camels back and now today the whole house smells like mold, it’s awful.

(* west wall [dining room/living room] leaked 5 times, bathroom wall leaked 3 times, living room window, roof ridge vent leaked twice… ["but it's supposed to" -yeah right] …every window facing driving rain has leaked twice and that’s 6 windows, garage leaked 2 or 3 times [once roof, once flashing between roof and outer wall], the windows by the door, the wall by the door, and NOW the east wall is leaking [stucco + hole by hose spigot + screws in window sill], and the door frame hasn’t stopped leaking since we bought the house and now it’s black.]

We bleached the water-damaged wood by the door and on the east wall that has yet to be fixed but the smell won’t go away. It’s a smell that’s a cross between bad stinky feet and a dirty piss-soaked cat litterbox.

I have nightmares when i sleep that this house is going to fall apart or float away. You hear these horror stories about what mold does to people’s health and brain capacity.

The smell is awful. We have to fix the doorframe and east wall, but it’s so hot out and rains every day that we’ve been putting it off, but I don’t think we can really put it off anymore. We bought mold test kits, I want to set them up NOW. Nevermind resale value, I don’t want to get sick.

Health, my day, etc.

Tuesday, August 9th, 2005

My appointment to meet w/ a lady from “the u.c.” today got cancelled so I had the day to myself. (u.c.= unitarian church) I went and got some clothes, had subway for lunch (trying to eat better), and hit the gym. I’m SO totally worn out from the gym, I missed it for entire week and now I’m beat, I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck.

Tomorrow I go to the dr and he’s going to kick my ass… no he’s not, he’s so nice. But I dread it cuz I’m not taking care of myself. The anti-depressants are supposed to help my compulsive binge eating but they’re not (or I’m just so f*cked up in the head I binge in spite of them). If I don’t watch it I’m going to end up a fat *ss. A year ago he gave me papers to go get a blood sugar test, one of those where you fast and then they feed you this sugar solution and then test your blood at intervals. But I’m so afraid I’m going to pass out that I haven’t done it. You sit in the waiting room w/ all the creepy-looking construction workers and migrant workers who are there for their employment drug tests, so I don’t want to be alone in that room if/when I pass out. Plus, my hypoglycemic episodes are SO bad, especially lately, that I’m just plain scared. They’ve been worse lately. I’m just too scared to do the test. So if I mention that the episodes are worse he’ll order the test again and I don’t want to do it.

But if I just eat right, not binge on sugar, and not eat refined flour by itself (cereal, bread, bagels, donuts, etc.) then I’m usually ok. If I just eat smart I should be ok.

idunno.

Yay

Tuesday, August 9th, 2005

Yay! Now that M has upgraded my MT install, I now get emai1 notifications when I get comments just like I used to, yay! :D

TWiT #17 is here

Monday, August 8th, 2005

Twit #17 is here.

To get TWiT episodes, go to www.twit.tv to get the mp3 or the torrent, or http://feeds.feedburner.com/twit-hib, or go into iTunes (the new version) and subscribe to the podcast.

Or, if you need a copy from me (if the other places are busy), you can download it from here (in a few minutes, it’s uploading now as I write this).

about: TWIT, or “This Week In Tech”, with Yoshi Deherrera, Leo Laporte, Patrick Norton, Kevin Rose, Robert Heron, David Prager, Roger Chang and friends, from the original Tech TV (pre-G4), The Screen Savers and Call For Help.

Figures

Monday, August 8th, 2005

I’ve been letting Six Feet Under slip down the Tivo list because it’s just been so freaking boring and depressing, now one episode has fallen off the bottom and it was apparently an important one! Ack.

Test , tags?

Monday, August 8th, 2005

M installed the MT tags plugin for me and upgraded MT so it’d work right. Thanks M! So this is a test to see if it’s all going to work right, i.e. to see if I break it or not. :)

http://www.sixapart.com/pronet/plugins/plugin/tags.html

Oh wait, idunno if I’m going to like this, it says:

“This plugin for Movable Type (version 3.16 or higher) lets you use the Keywords field to enter tags to describe your entries. Tags are automatically published as category archives and new tags automatically create the appropriate category when the entry is published.”

I don’t want new categories created for each tag! Shit. Great.

UPDATE: In response to a comment left today, all I’m sayin’ is I haven’t even been using the tags plugin for 24 hours yet and I’m not sure if I like it or not. I never saw the keywords field before the tags plugin, if I’d seen it before I might have used it, but “out of sight out of mind” I guess. I’m not dissing MT nor the plugin, I’m just saying I’m not sure it’s what I’m looking for. I’ll know as I play with it some more.

EEEE! My new iPod came today! I outgrew my 2gig iPod mini and we got a deal on a refurbed iPod 4th gen 60gb color iPod photo.

I hate to part w/ my pink mini, but it doesn’t make sense to keep both. :( It’s just that once I got into podcasts, I filled up the mini quickly when before with just music I was nowhere close. I subscribe to quite a handful of podcasts and only keep 2-3 episodes on the pod at a time (except for Leo’s KFI podcast, I keep a bunch of those on board at a time).

Guess I’ll put my pink iPod mini on ebay soon.

I did order a neato skin for my iPod.

It’s hot pink stripey that glows in the dark and has a creme-saver-like wheel cover.

Borderline tacky I know, but I like it. Hey, I like pink and I like fun. I came thissclose to buying THIS as my ipod holder just for fun:
(buy).
I still think it’d be fun. :)

Today was a lazy day. We planned to go to the pug meetup and then a “doggie wash” fundraiser for the local Humane Society, but we were both just so tired we couldn’t get out of bed. So we went to lunch w/ mom, went to PetSmart, Books A Million, etc. Then we lazed around, watched a movie on tivo that M was in as an extra when he was in high school, went to dinner, etc.

I’m getting ready to take a sleeping pill so I can sleep thru M’s snoring and get up in time to go to the UC (unitarian church).

Man, this kind of thing really pisses me off:

“Boston airport tries to kill free Wi-Fi node”

digg.com/technology/Boston_airport_tries_to_kill_free_Wi-Fi_node

They say “Continental’s free service poses an “unacceptable potential risk” to communications gear used by the state police and the Transportation Security Administration, the letters claim.” but yet their $8/day service they themselves offer is NOT a ‘security risk’. NIIIiiice.

Subaru

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2005

I really love the two-tone Subaru Wagons, the Outback or Impreza. We want to get a 4 wheel drive car that has a bigger back seat than my Eclipse, is a wagon (we hate sport utes), and depending on whether we get an older one used as a third car or replace my Eclipse w/ a new one, we want a stick or sport-shift and at least 200hp. If it’s going to be my every day car it has to be a stick or sports shift and has to be at least 200hp. But if it’s an older used car as our third car, those features are not as important.

We got the Z stuck in shallow sand last time we went geocaching and needed fellow geocachers to push us out. That’s why we want 4 wheel drive.

M’s Z has no back seat and while my Eclipse does, I feel it’s a death trap, too small, head too close to cieling/glass. We like to take mom around and when M’s parents come to town, they always have to drive (the rental) because we don’t really have backseats and M’s dad falls asleep at the wheel, drives into oncoming traffic and slams on his brakes at GREEN lights.

So we’re on the hunt for a Subaru wagon. I’ve always liked the car. I can’t really wrap my head around not having an Eclipse as my every day car, so if we find a decent used one that’ll be our third car… or we’ll get a nice new Subaru and then maybe down the road get me a used Eclipse.

I just like sportiness and NEED power/speed.

My new nickname according to the local Linux Users Group is “Gadget Girl”. :D

He left me!

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2005

I can’t believe it, M left me! (well, moved to another table) We’re at a linux meetup now and they all decided to move tables around and now he’s at the other end of an arrangement of tables (19 people are expected) and now here I am booted into linux and he’s not nearby to help me. I can use linux, but I don’t know how to install software properly. I need to update Gaim so I can get the msn part of it working, but I don’t know how to uncompress and install software properly on linux. Ugh. OH well. At least there’s good food. *sigh*

I’m on a caffeine rush. I want to be early for the Linux Meetup tonight, but because I’m on a coffee caffeine rush I’m ready almost too early. So here I am.

I’m wearing my “I’m Blogging This” shirt.

Went for sushi today.

My boobs itch.

Damnit.

the south = hot = sweat = itch = want to move to toronto

Listened to Leo in the car and at the sushi bar on my pink ipod mini. Leo ROCKS.

I’m getting the caffeine shakes now.

One Heart

Monday, August 1st, 2005

I’m reading this neat book. It’s a good bathroom book cuz you can just read a snippet here and there. It’s called “One Heart” and I hate the title cuz it makes it sound like a girly book. The subtitle is “Universal Wisdom from the World’s Scriptures“. It has quotes from many different religious sources that say the same thing about love, giving, goodness, etc.

Of course, this is just one of MANY books I am reading. I just have to come to terms with the fact that I LIKE reading several books at once. If I beat myself up for always starting another before I finish the first, then I’ll never be happy. If I just accept it, and look at it NOT as “reading a.d.d.”, but rather “my brain is just too curious or smart for one book at a time“, and accept that, then I can enjoy my strange reading behavior and not feel bad about it, not feel presssued to finish them as projects.

On top of all the books that I own which I am on a quest to finish, I also have a compulsive need to leave any library I enter with an armload of books. Some of these library books I’m just curious to flip through and didn’t have time to do so at the library, and others I wholeheartedly intend to finish, even if I have to buy a used copy from AbeBooks.com.

On my mind:

Going to bed, tired. Pugs rule. Religion sux. Reading lots of books. Watching lots of documentaries. The UU church is awesome, it’s not religion. Wondering about ALL religions. The afterlife. Atheism. Why did he take his own life?? Hungry. Hunger. Web design, photography, new friends/older people. Florida is older people. No new young friends. But friends are friends. The Pug at Pagan Animal Blessing Ceremony today. Crab in panang? Nice neighbors, cute new puppy they have. Why do I not go to bed? Fear of surrendering yet another day? Dread of the following day? Fear of dreams? Who reads this? It doesn’t matter, I write for me. But I do wonder.

Update. OOOHHHhhhh, I just realized it, it’s the nap we took from 4:30 to 8pm plus the coffee I had, no wonder I’m not tired. But M can sleep in spite of that nap. Why is that?
