Happy Saturday

Saturday, September 17th, 2005

Stayed up waAAay too late. Went to breakfast w/ mom, then to some video game stores and got some used games for the Nintendo DS and Gameboy Advance. M wants a DS now so we are going to put my pink iPod mini and his Gameboy Advance on Ebay this weekend and then he can have my blue DS and I’m going to order the PINK one!

One of the game stores was having a giveaway but we didn’t win. Then Home Depot. Then Big Lots for some Autumn decorations and then stood in line there for probably 35 minutes. Now we’re home and freaking out cuz the BORED HOUSEWIFE BRIGADE of our neighborhood is sending everyone letters for having bits of dirt here and bits of mold there, I fuckin’ HATE them. We hope to do some painting this weekend inside and clean the house and I want to decorate for fall. There is no nip in this south Florida air, but I want to pretend there is anyway.

Planetarium

Thursday, September 15th, 2005

I went to my old stomping ground today, the planetarium, where I was laserist for 10 years. I got to go to a private viewing of some new cutting edge full dome technology. A digital planetarium that can replace the traditional starball, fly through the universe, play full-dome movies, simulate an aquarium, and more. It was really neat to be surrounded by people who understand technology in this town. I may go back Thursday morning for another viewing, but that means I better get to bed right quick.

Comments are still down until M can help me figure out how to blog comment spam. So find my email addy and/or I.M. contact info to contact me instead.

It’s my birthday week, yay! I’m so freaking old it’s not even funny. :(

Do you digg? Add me as a friend so you can see which stories I digg and I you.

My new car rocks on road trips. It drives so smooth, I had no idea I was doing 100!

I have to go run around and do some stuff, get persriptions at pharmacy, grocery shop, maybe go to the planetarium for a preview of this new technology. But M might be getting off work early cuz he went in at like 3am.

I just bit my tongue. The inside of my mouth is all torn up. I keep biting my cheek over and over and over. I need braces, my tooth sticks out causing me to keep biting myself.

Home safe from the trip. Very tired. Gainesville Florida is just beautiful. Hills, lots of real trees, a bit cooler, and no old farts, college students all over the place! I’d love to live there. It’s SO different from south Fl. Down here it’s painfully hot, disgustingly humid, there’s nothing to do and it’s nothing but old farts.

The dogs had fun taking a trip, we put up a pet barrier in the car and they had a huge area to run around in. The Motel 6 allows dogs but the bed sucked and so we didn’t sleep at all.

We visited a veterinary-behaviorist to hopefully help M’s basket-case dog. We’ll see how that goes.

I’m still tired.

This is my birthday week! w00t!

What is the BFD re. the nano?

It’s small, but so is the mini, and it holds barely any songs. I now have a 60gb iPod. Show me something bigger than 60gb with video and maybe I’ll blink and eye.

It’s just another mini in a different shape. Maybe I’m missing something. Does it clean the house for you too?

Anyone use gamespot.com? If so, look me up and add me as a friend. It’s a huge site and I’m just finding all the cool corners now.

Comment Spam

Thursday, September 8th, 2005

I’m innundated w/ comment spam. Any ideas what to do guys?

I do have comment queing on, so I can filter it out manually to keep it off the site, but when I get about 15 per minute, that’s a pain (and ip banning doesn’t seem to stop it and somehow each one comes from a different ip address anyway).

I don’t really want to use typekey, but I will if it’s the only option.

I want one of those “type this code” thingys like I used to have, but we’ve been having trouble installing one of those packs since my web host only has older versions of perl (I think).

So, in the meantime, off I go to google to look up “movable type comment spam”.

Spammers are stupid!

UPDATE 2: I’m trying to get typekey working. I copy/pasted in the typekey key and entered in the url of the mt app but it’s not working. I’ll look at it after dinner, I have a hunger headache. And now the dog has shit and pissed all over the floor and carpet. So since comments aren’t working, you’ll have to wait or you can email me or you can instant message me via the contact info on the sidebar of the main page. (as if anyboyd freaking reads this anyway)

Subway Wanker Caught

Remember the subway wanker?

They caught him:

Games

Thursday, September 8th, 2005

Got two new games today for the Nintendo DS.

The Urbz, Sims in the City for DS.

Crash Nitro Kart (used) for Gameboy Advance.

I like that the DS takes both game cartridges.

M had a handful of games for the GBA, and of those, I’ve been playing Spyro, season of ice.

M bought Asphalt, Urban GT for DS and that’s really fun too.

Nintendogs, of course, is awesome.

I feel like I’m forgetting something.

I made an amazon.com wishlist of games that I’d like to try. There are some really neat ones coming out soon in sept/oct.

EDITED TO ADD:
I joined GameSpot.com. My GameSpot profile (wish lists, game collection, etc.) is here.

I’m tired, but I don’t feel like I’ve had a lot of “me time” today so I’m not going to bed.

whatever

Thursday, September 8th, 2005

Went to bed early (well, early for me) last night and still slept the day away.

I’m in a bad mood.

F8ck.

I went for a walk last night w/ the neighbors and today my legs are sore. HOW out of shape am I? I miss the gym for a week and I’m that sore? Geezus.

Gameboy Advance Manuals?

Wednesday, September 7th, 2005

Where can I download manuals for Gameboy Advance games?

I went to one game store and I heard the guy say “we don’t take used games unless they have everything, the case, the manual, everything.”

Then I went to another store and bought a used game and when I got in the car I saw it was just the cartrige, no manual, no case. I don’t care about the case but I can’t get full use of the game without the manual.

Any ideas where I can download game manuals?

Todays Grind

Wednesday, September 7th, 2005

I seem to be missing the point re. the sleeping pills my dr. gave me. I stay up till like 4:30 am and then take a sleeping pill to help me sleep in spite of M’s snoring and then I sleep ’till 1:30pm. That’s not why they were given to me. I need to take the sleeping pill at like 11 or 12 (which is ‘early’ for me) and get up at a reasonable hour rather than sleep my whole freaking day away.

I have lots of errands to run, I need to bill my clients, and I’m not very focused while on this terrible sleeping schedule at all.

I need to take The Pug for a butt-squeeze (apparently pugs need to have their anal glands “expressed” once in a while and I AIN’T DOIN’ IT!!!), we have overdue library books, I have to bill my clients, I have to corner another client (they paid me the down payment and yet have no time to tell me what they want besides “a website”), I want to go by a couple video game stores to look at used gameboy advance games… what else… idunno.

We went to a linux meetup tonight. Brought my teeny tiny laptop and my nintendo ds. I love that thing. I am on the hunt for good ds games and good gameboy advance games since the ds takes both games.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll go to my favorite coffee shop w/ my laptop and nintendo.

Just dreaming

Monday, September 5th, 2005

Someday, before I die, I am going to own a circa 1996 CELTIC BLUE PEARL Mitsubishi Eclipse! Just LOOK at that gorgeous color:

I think heaven is that color.

I once saw a convertible one that had a gray top and gray interior, and it was so beautiful I actually cried.

Picassa Gmail Email Flickr

Sunday, September 4th, 2005

I love this. (The page is gone but there is a google cache of it)-

How to use Picassa to email photos to flickr via gmail: link.

The thing is when I use the Flickr Uploadr, I can add tags but not a description. And by the time I can get to the flickr page, click on it, add a description, 4 or so people have already looked at the photo without seeing a description. Sometimes the description is important, as in this photo because it has links to charities.

So, emailing photos via Picassa is a pretty neat way to do it.

Animal reminder for flickr

I made this for flickr:

Habitat for Humanity

Sunday, September 4th, 2005

Something I hadn’t thought about before until Harry Connick Jr. mentioned it tonight on tv. After the Red Cross is done with immediate Hurricane Relief, Habitat For Humanity will help rebuild homes for people:

Consider donating to them, too. And don’t forget the animals. :)

My Favorite Things

Sunday, September 4th, 2005

I like to do this once in a while.

My favorite sites & tech things:

“These are a few of my favorite techie things…”

* Cobain Backup because you can do LIVE BACKUPS as an option (i.e. you don’t need software to use the backed up files, it’s just like drag-n-drop) and it’s FREE.
* ePrompter (It checks multiple gmail accounts at once and webmail accounts. The more I use it the more I love it. Free!)
* vimeo.com, like flickr, but for video.
* My new pet project, a website for locals. (email me if you’d like the link. I set up drupal, a chat room, a message board, and am writing articles as well as just general blog posts.)
* Moblogging: My Moblog
* My teeny tiny laptop that I got for working on my writing in cafes and places other than home.
* My Sony Clie UX50. It has wifi but also I can surf anywhere by connecting to my cell phone via bluetooth. Then I can surf, chat, email, you name it.
* Podcasts! Especially TWiT, Leo’s KFI tech show, Security Now, Diggnation.
* Digg.com
* Flickr, for the community.
* Fotki.com, for well-organized mass storage of photos.
* Spamex.com. “I GET NO SPAM!” (no seriously, I’m almost totally spam free thanks to spamex.)
* Anonymizer.
* StuffBak.com.
* The EFF, eff.org.
* Linux Lan Parties & BBQs at our house and Linux Meetups.
* Chatting on IM.
* Zone Alarm free firewall. Lean; does not slow the system down.
* Spybot S&D free spyware prevention software. Lean; does not slow the system down.
* AdAware, free spyware protection software. Lean; does not slow the system down.
* AVG Virus Protection. Free and very good anti-virus! Lean; does not slow the system down.
* AbeBooks.com, an online network of used books stores around the world. I’ve gotten used books for a dollar there.
* Trillian, lets me chat on Instant Message on AIM, YIM, MSN, and ICQ all at the same time w/ one piece of software.
* LuLu.com “Free” do-it-yourself publishing.
* Azureus. I couldn’t understand or use BitTorrent proplerly until I started using this.
* iPodder to download podcasts automatically (or iPodderX for mac).
