Still Tweaking

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

I am still tweaking this blog as far as links to the archives, etc.  But sooner than later, there will links that go back to my first “web page” I made back in 1996.

Back To Life

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

This was my best blog, laserblog.com.  I moved away from it because I was afraid I was getting too personal and then people from “real life” found it. I don’t mind if strangers read my dairy, because they don’t know who I am.   So I had started another blog… then another.  But now I’m back here because this was my favorite blog and time has passed and I miss it.  Plus, I have all the archives plus archives from it’s subsequent incarnation all imported.  This is sort-of a history tool for me if nothing else.  I can go back and see when certain things happened, etc.  But I do intend to make this my main blog, again.  I’ll just password-protect “sensitive” posts. Welcome back.

Twitter

I added a “twitter” badge to the sidebar, the little “what I’m doing” box.

Because there aren’t enough blogs in the world

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

Because trying to keep up with maintaining a hundred blogs isn’t enough:
I’ve started an art blog.
I set this up just for my artwork.
How many blogs do I have? Good god…
main blog (this one), friends and family blog, photoblog, backyard blog, travel blog, dog blog, fitness blog, cat blog… what am I forgetting? …and now an art blog.
In the top photo of that blog is my laptop, my moleskine, a starbucks cup, a diet cokie, and my travel colored pencils. That shot sums me up pretty well. :)

Moblogging

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

My original “moblog” is pretty much dead.

I love the moblog, but the website it’s on, has kinda died, lost a lot of it’s clients, it’s community, and therefore it’s interactive-ness. I’ll keep it up, since it’s kind-of a diary spanning almost 3 years.

The NEW moblog is flickr. Flickr.com is one of my two favorite photo sites. What’s great about it is the community. You always get people looking at your photos and commenting on them. I tag my Moblog photos w/ the tag “moblog”, so to see my current moblog, you go here whereas to see all my flickr photos you just go here.

I still archive my best and favorite photography at fotki.com because it’s also one of the best sites and I like the Folder & Album setup they use. But for interactiveness and fun and exposure, I like flickr. So, to peek into my moblogging, keep an eye on my flickr photos tagged “moblog“.

All under one roof

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

Ok, I finally got ALL my old archived posts imported into this blog.

Those of you who remember 1aserb1og, the saved exported txt file was too big to import, and I just now got around to breaking it up into 4 pieces and importing it.  So now all those old posts are here.

In fact, if you look at “Older Archives” on the left sidebar, underneath the “Current Archives” you will find links to all the older blogs including “B)1aserb1og pre-moveable type and “A)a screenshot of my first-ever website.  All posts from the “C)“, “D)“, and “E)” incarnation of my blogging are now imported here.

Nobody probably cares, but for me it’s great cuz it’s like a diary of my life, for myself.

Shozu, Nakama

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

Been using Shozu.  Thinking about trying nakama.ca . Anyone use both and have any thoughts?  What I like about shozu is being able to send a photo to more than one place but only paying for one upload.

Imported

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

Today is a day for imports.  My imported camera phone arrived, and I was able to import some old mt posts into this install of wordpress.   I can’t seem to export from blogsome, which is an older version of wordpress, but it’s ok cuz either way, my list of “Archives” on the sidebar is now complete.

Slump

Thursday, January 5th, 2006

Sometimes I just get in a blogging slump.

Sorry about that.

I know my HUGE dedicated audience is just dying for updates. /sarcasm

We got back from the Great Wonderful Iloveitso White North on New Years Eve. We did the whole three-day drive back in one shot, 29 hours. Then slept thru New Years Eve.

Then we vegged out Sunday. I slept and lazed around Monday. Tuesday I ran a million errands. Yesterday I planned to run errands but had trouble getting moving, but did go to lunch w/ my ne1ghbor to talk about writing and web des1gn.

Today I got up early w/ intentions of catching up on stuff but the news put me to sleep on the couch and I slept WAYYY too long. What a freakin’ waste.

Part of my lack of blogging is that I am TOTALLY FREAKING ADDICTED to ANIMAL CROSSING WILD WORLD for DS.

BEST GAME EVER! Sickeningly cute, OCD-inducing collecting going on. WIFI.

I kept begging M to get a copy so we could play together, go into eachother’s towns to collect items, but he was like “eh…”. Then his fellow-programmer co-worker said that he and HIS wife got DSs for xmas AND ACWW and now M wanted a copy.

Copies have been mega-scarce and going for insane premiums on ebay and amazon/used. But I lucked out and got a copy during a short stint that amazon actually had copies and had it overnighted.

It arrived last night, and as soon as the frozen pizza dinner was cooked, M got paged and had to go BACK to work and didn’t get home ’till 2am.

WHY he doesn’t look for a job in Toronto WHERE WE BOTH REALLY WANT TO LIVE is beyond me. But that’s another rant. :..(

ACWW is online too, so if you have ACWW message me to exchange friend codes. Yes, comments are still down so use IM or email (see sidebar).

Comments are back up. So give it a try. :D

Comment Spam

Thursday, September 8th, 2005

I’m innundated w/ comment spam. Any ideas what to do guys?

I do have comment queing on, so I can filter it out manually to keep it off the site, but when I get about 15 per minute, that’s a pain (and ip banning doesn’t seem to stop it and somehow each one comes from a different ip address anyway).

I don’t really want to use typekey, but I will if it’s the only option.

I want one of those “type this code” thingys like I used to have, but we’ve been having trouble installing one of those packs since my web host only has older versions of perl (I think).

So, in the meantime, off I go to google to look up “movable type comment spam”.

Spammers are stupid!

UPDATE 2: I’m trying to get typekey working. I copy/pasted in the typekey key and entered in the url of the mt app but it’s not working. I’ll look at it after dinner, I have a hunger headache. And now the dog has shit and pissed all over the floor and carpet. So since comments aren’t working, you’ll have to wait or you can email me or you can instant message me via the contact info on the sidebar of the main page. (as if anyboyd freaking reads this anyway)

Yay

Tuesday, August 9th, 2005

Yay! Now that M has upgraded my MT install, I now get emai1 notifications when I get comments just like I used to, yay! :D

Test , tags?

Monday, August 8th, 2005

M installed the MT tags plugin for me and upgraded MT so it’d work right. Thanks M! So this is a test to see if it’s all going to work right, i.e. to see if I break it or not. :)

http://www.sixapart.com/pronet/plugins/plugin/tags.html

Oh wait, idunno if I’m going to like this, it says:

“This plugin for Movable Type (version 3.16 or higher) lets you use the Keywords field to enter tags to describe your entries. Tags are automatically published as category archives and new tags automatically create the appropriate category when the entry is published.”

I don’t want new categories created for each tag! Shit. Great.

UPDATE: In response to a comment left today, all I’m sayin’ is I haven’t even been using the tags plugin for 24 hours yet and I’m not sure if I like it or not. I never saw the keywords field before the tags plugin, if I’d seen it before I might have used it, but “out of sight out of mind” I guess. I’m not dissing MT nor the plugin, I’m just saying I’m not sure it’s what I’m looking for. I’ll know as I play with it some more.

Comment Stupidity AGAIN

Saturday, April 30th, 2005

OH MY GOD I DID IT ******AGAIN*******!!!!!!!! I totally forget to check for PENDING COMMENTS! AGH! I’m so used to the old MT emailing me when a comment is submitted.

My appoligies, AGAIN AGAIN AGAIN to those who commented. Geez! I’m such an ass sometimes.

Comments, my bad, again!

Saturday, April 16th, 2005

ACK! I did it AGAIN! I KEEP forgetting to check movable type for new pending comments! My appologies to commenters. I wasn’t ignoring you. I just keep forgetting that MT has built-in comment queing. Ack!

I’m a DORK!

Sunday, April 3rd, 2005

Sing with me:

“I am such a flaming dork, doo dah, doo dah…”

All this time I have been comments and didn’t even realize it. My appolgies to you who left comments and were wondering why they weren’t showing up. I’m not used to the new version of MT yet so I didn’t realize there was a comment queue built in and that I had to check it to approve comments. I didn’t even know that I had comments waiting.

I promise to be more on the ball in the future. :D

Increase blog traffic

Thursday, March 24th, 2005

How does one increase the readership of their blog? Supposedly a good way to increase blog traffic is to sign up with Blog Explosion. I use it. I enjoy surfing blogs through there, I’ve found some interesting ones.

Another way to get more blog readers supposedly is to join up with Blog Clicker. I have not tried them yet, so I don’t know how it really effects blog traffic.

Blogazoo is another website that’s supposed to help you increase weblog traffic. I have not tried them yet either.

Mainly I blog for myself, for fun, to vent, to rant, to reflect, to remember dates and events, and to catalog links I might want to find later. But I have to admit it is nice when you know that others are reading what you write. Even if it’s just a few. I enjoy reading other people’s blogs. I don’t claim to be interesting or groundbreaking. But I like peeking into other people’s lives, maybe some other people want to peek into mine. :)

CSS headaches

Friday, March 18th, 2005

CSS is driving me nuts. I never really learned it. Now I am starting over w/ a new template (I mean this one, since changing urls), based on the default template for the new version of MT, and I can’t figure out why the text on the sidebar has SO much space between each line. So far I’ve worked around it by just putting short lines of text on the sidebar so that there IS no wrapping, but I really have to figure it out. For example, I really want to put the blogroll back on, but when I do, there is SO much space between each link that it just takes up way too much room. Ack! I just never grasped CSS.

Hair

Tuesday, March 15th, 2005

I need a new graphic of myself. I recently got my hair cut into this funky cut- short curly, mega short in the back, longer in the front. You can kinda see the angle here and here. My graphic still shows me w/ long hair. I wish I was more talented with creating that type of graphic from scratch. There are some bloggers out there who have REALLY cute graphics of themselves that they made, but I guess I’m more techie than artsy. The pug is whining, I better go take him out. The in-laws land in 6 minutes. Wheeee!

Hello World

Saturday, March 12th, 2005

I had my first “personal web page” around 1996. I had a website at home.sprintmail.com for a long time.

Around 1998 I read about blogs and wanted to convert my personal page to a one, but for some reason couldn’t figure out how to do it. I read about some blogging software but didn’t want to pay for software and couldn’t figure out how to make the trail version work. I read about weblogs.com and looked at people’s blogs, but couldn’t figure out how to start one. If blogger.com was around then, I didn’t know about it.

In January ‘03 I [turned off the old regular website and] started a blog by hand, and then a month later I started doing it in movable type. That lasted until roughly today.

Today, I am starting over with this blog. I intended for that blog to be private but public. Public so that people on the internet could read it, but private in that no family, friends, clients, etc. would read it.

But people from “real life” were finding it. I was getting careless. I used one too many words that google picked up as keywords, and now am at risk of the wrong person reading that blog.

I like my blog to be pure me, like my private locked diary, but online for all the world to see. I don’t care if you read it, you don’t know me. You are not my mom, you are not my client. Strangers can read my rants, my nasty, ugly rants where I curse and vent… but I don’t want my clients to read that. Strangers can read my raw feelings about, say, an Aunt who has committed suicide, but I don’t want her kids to read that. Strangers can laugh at my ravings about M’s parents, but I don’t want them to read it.

So here I am again. Starting over. And hopefully this time I will be more careful.

I hate to leave the old blog behind. I am not sure if those readers will follow me here or not. I liked the old blog ALOT. I liked the design, the voice, etc. Here is a new design, but hopefully the voice will remain the same. I am the same. If anything I can be more honest and open here.

At some point soon, I will link to the old blog from here, so that you can read my older archives. But first I have to figure out what my new domain name is going to be, etc.

Stay tuned.

Radio

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2005

Ok so the radio show about blogs has been moved to March 10th, but it’s still going on. This’ll be interesting. I’m really looking forward to it. Fun!

Me on the radio?

Monday, February 21st, 2005

I was contacted today by somebody at a local news radio station about possibly being on a radio show they are putting together about blogging. I was asked to join a panel of guests. It’s tentative, but if it goes, it’ll be this Wednesday. Cool!

Only Me

Thursday, February 10th, 2005

From the I’m-such-an-ass department.

I’ve been having bad foot problems (bad enough to go to the dr about it today), pain in my heel. Because of the heel pain, I leaned too far forward today, and tore the muscle in my big toe. Now my big toe hurts like hell. F*ckin’-A.
