Forgot to mention, but the night before our road trip, M got my tiny laptop working so that it connects to my cell phone via bluetooth and uses the phone’s GPRS internet! So now, regardless of wifi availability, I can connect the laptop to the internet ANYWHERE. Have to turn graphics off to save bandwidth, but still, it’s great for most things, esp. logging into M’s work using SSH while in the middle of the everglades. 
I thought I had blogged this photo before, but here is a great shot of my Fujitsu P1120 showing how small it is. This is a photo of it sitting on a mousepad.
Wow. I’m really amazed.
I started surfing the web for “bible covers” and “bible organizers” and was amazed at all the different styles you can get! (remember, I’m looking because they make perfect cases for my laptop.)
Camo… denim… bright colors… fine leather… and tons more. For sure, they vary in size. When I was at the book store today, many were TOO big for my tiny laptop. But get out the tape measure and grab yourself a really awesome case/tote/sleeve/bag for your P1120. =:D
Like I said earlier, I got this great Messenger Bag from Old Navy today, and I thought “what if I put Ike in there?” (“Ike” is what I call my teeny tiny Fujitsu P1120 laptop). If I put little ol’ Ike in there, he’ll roll around uncontrollably. So I thought, “gee, if only I could find a nice little snuge sleeve for him“.
So then I was in Books-A-Million and they had this BIBLE case. I got an idea. So I started playing around w/ the different sizes, and BAM! A nice leather “bible case” fits Ike JUST PERFECTLY! It’s leather so it’s a bit cushion-y.
But it’s got this cross on it. Now, I’m not against Jesus or christianity, but I AM sick to death of the turbo christians here in the south and I IN NO WAY want any southern turbo-christians to look at me and go “ohhhh, she’s my sister!” NOT!!!!!
So I’ll be putting my vampire patch over that cross. I feel evil, but I’m not. It’s just that in THIS town, you bear a cross and it says WAY more than, a) it used to, and b) what it might say in other areas of the country/world.
I’ve had it w/ the southern turbo-christians and I will not bear any of their icons. They stole jesus and the cross from me.

It’s black leather (or fake leather, I don’t know) w/ a cross branded in it. I’m going to put a patch over that.
As you know, I just LOVE my Fujitsu Lifebook P1120. I found a great bag for it. It’s a Samsonite travel bag and I can’t find it online to give you the model number, but I can tell you I got it at Office Max by the luggage and computer bags. (I’m going to keep looking, and/or if I go to Office Max I’ll write down the type of bag and let you know). [[see update below.]]
It’s one of those bags that can be worn w/ the strap across the chest so it can’t be grabbed easily, and it’s unisex. It’s a great bag: it has lots of pockets and zippers as well as slots for business or credit cards.

This bag is black and on the front it says “Samsonite” in white lettering, but I put a Hello Kitty patch over that part. You can leave yours black or put your own patch over the logo.
UPDATE: Ok, I got the info on this bag. For those of you who have this laptop, this bag is GREAT for it. It’s a Royal Traveller EXCUSRION BAG “by Samsonite”, Model number RT0063BK, bar code number 21276 98263. Like I said, I got it at Office Max although I did not see it on their website, but they had it in the store today. Now that I’ve had my Fujitsu P1120 for a while now, I have to say, I still LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I fell in love w/ it when I first got it, well, before I got it I fell in love w/ it. But having it is just beyond words wonderful. I have no life, I know. But this laptop is just too cute. It’s so small and light I take it literally everywhere I go. People come up to me in cafes and ask “Is that a real computer?” I tell them yes, it’s a full computer running full Windows XP. People have me write down the model number so that they can look into buying one (my sushi chef bought one after seeing mine). You get over the tiny keyboard so fast it’s hardly a drawback. It’s about 2 pounds, even w/ the extended-life battery. It has built-in WiFi and a touchscreen. The only thing that would make this better would be if it had built-in bluetooth and was a tiny bit faster. If I were rich, I’d buy a second one, and maybe even a third one, and leave it unpacked, and put away for when this one gets old.
I always thought that as a laptops got old and things broke you could just replace parts. But I have this huge Gateway laptop w/ a screen larger than a 17″ monitor’s screen, and it’s great (but dog-heavy!). As it aged, things broke, but they could not be replaced. The battery died. I ordered a new battery, and within a week, the battery was dead. The floppy drive died, and so I ordered a new one, and within a few weeks that drive was dead, too. So, replacing parts is obviously not a solution.
So, when my P1120 gets old and starts to die, what will I do? Technology gets better and better but that doesn’t mean that what you want will be available. The general public may decide that tiny laptops aren’t worth the trouble, and companies worried about the bottom line may stop making them, but lil’ ol’ me will still want one. I swear, if I get one more big sale in my business, I may buy another one and put away for later. I really do love this laptop that much.
I want to put Linux on my Fujitsu P1120 laptop but I’m not sure which distro would be best.
It’s tiny (footprint no bigger than a mousepad) and has no cd-rom drive. I have an external cdrom drive so I can install from a cd, but since it’s an external drive I don’t want to use a cd-bootable distro.
It’s an 800mhz Crusoe chip,
256 memory
30gig hd
It also has a touch-screen which others have gotten to work under linux:

This laptop is a bit pokey running XP… (things like a new browser takes a few seconds to open, drop-down menus take a second or two to drop down, etc.) …and so I’d like to install a nice, LEAN distro of linux to see if it performs better under linux.
But I don’t know which distro would be good. Surfing, reading, looking…
P.S. … and it has to be relatively easy to install since I’m a linux newbie.
Today was a lazy Sunday after an even lazier Saturday. I think I surfed more yesterday than I have in a week combined. I was up until 4:20am on Friday night, surfing, then I slept in, got up, and surfed all day- ALL day- on my new tiny laptop, then surfed again late into the night. It’s a sickness I tell ya!
Today we went to Tar-jay and then a coffee house, which to my happiness had wifi available. We weren’t there long enough to surf, but u bet I’ll be back next week. My favorite coffee house has no wifi and that sucks.
While at the coffee house, M discovered in a Circuit City ad in the newspaper, a little Kensington WiFi Finder keychain. (kinda big for a keychain) So we flew outta there to get to Circuit City before they closed and picked it up. It’s neato nifty-keen! So now I can find leaky wifi without having to be booted up. Warwalking, here I come!
For some reason my new Fujitsu P1120 is crashing our wireless access point. It’s the strangest thing. We did a firmware upgrade and it’s still doing it. The thing just dies and has to be unplugged then plugged back in. It’s a real bitch, especially after deciding that we ought to have a lan party soon. I hope we can fix this problem.
