Photographer Beaten

Monday, February 26th, 2007

This makes me sick to my stomach:

from digg:
Photographer arrested and beat up by police after photographing them” “A photographer tangled with the Miami-Dade Police Dept. and ended up in the slammer…”

Cool Tripods

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

There are so many cool tripods out now. The GorillaPod is the coolest. I got one for my point-and-shoot and have one on the way for my digital slr. Joby.com

Then I saw this one at ThinkGeek.comthinkgeek.com/electronics/cameras/8920/

Then just now I discovered the Monster Pod at PhotoJoJo.com

By the way, VERY COOL STUFF at photojojo.com!!! Seriously, check out the stuff they sell in their store and the stuff they review!

Update: I saw a very high-res photo on usenet of tsunami aftermath with tons of dead bodies floating in the water. Very… sad. I won’t post it here tho, cuz not everyone would want to see it.

Update: For more flickr tsunami aftermath photos, see the flicr blog post:

Sunday, November 21st, 2004

Holy cow, the more I check out flickr.com, the more I’m impressed!

Check out the short videos of how their photo organizer works!

Also you can use it to send camera phone images right to your existing blog, whether it’s a blogger blog, wordpress, MT, or whatever. WOW.

(I talked about flickr before.)

Flickr

Sunday, November 21st, 2004

I just discovered flickr.com.

I noticed yesterday that Christine was using it, then today I was looking at this great pug photo and saw it was at flickr, too. I think you can moblog at flickr, just like you can at textamerica.com.

So I registered so that I could comment, and now I have a free account. I will have to look into it further.

FYI, my FAVORITE photo site is FOTKI.COM. $30 a YEAR and u get UNLIMITED photo storage. You can link directly to the images for display on other websites, it’s awesome.

I also like BuzzNet.com for photoblogging.

Speaking of favorite sites, I need to do a “favorite sites” post again.

UPDATE: Ok, I think flickr.com is blowing me away. Check out their ‘get the most out of flickr’ page: http://www.flickr.com/get_the_most.gne

i Pod mini line of digicams

Sunday, July 25th, 2004

From the register:
“Kyocera offers iPod Mini-matching digicams”
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/07/22/kyocera_ipod_cam/

Excerpt:
“Kyocera is preparing to cash in on demand for Apple’s iPod Mini digital music player with a range of digital cameras that will ship in similar metallic pastel shades as the hard-to-get-hold of MP3 machine.
The Japanese company today unveiled the Finecam SL400R family in its home market, and said they cameras will only be made available in Apple’s Ginza store and the Mac maker’s online shop.”

Fotki (and buzznet)

Thursday, July 22nd, 2004

I signed up w/ fotki. I’d had a free account, but today I signed up for the premium account.

My page:
http://public.fotki.com/laserone/

I like it. For $30 a year you get unlimited space for your images, u can treat it like hosting in that you can link directly to the photos themselves, and u can use ftp which I really like.

I may upgrade my web hosting for my websites to a package that allows more domains, but less web space, and then start putting images there and linking to them from my sites. Not sure yet, they make it hard to chose.

But this’ll be good. I like fotki alot.

I also like buzznet.com. I like the layout alot, the photoblog style of it. But right now it says “Users [of Buzznet] can post up to 10 (TEN) images per day and up to 200 images per month. Buzznet is developing premium services which will be reasonably priced and will be announced soon and these levels will be adjusted accordingly. So you will NOT be able to always send 10 photos, however there will always be some free aspects to Buzznet.com.” But it’s said that for a while.

So, since I didn’t really KNOW how to compare their yet-to-be-seen premium service, I went w/ Fotki. But I have to say I really like both of them.

Neat!

via forty.something & Not On My Watch

UPDATE: There is some talk on the web of this site being a hoax, but from I can find is that the photos are real, all that is in question is whether she biked it alone or if she was in a car w/ others. Who cares about how she got there. If the pictures are real, that’s all that matters to me.

haha great site

Yahoo Digicam at Office Max

Sunday, January 4th, 2004

I saw this little digicam online a few months ago and cam thissclose to buying it, but used willpower. Then today I saw it at Office Max, and came thissclose to buying it. It’s $69.95.

I had fallen in love w/ the FujiFilm film version of this camera a while ago (APS film), and when I saw it in digital, I flipped. It’s 1.3mp WITH FLASH.

Now I cannot find it anywhere online to link you to, but here’s a pic .

I don’t need it, but it’s sporty and stylish and has a flash.

It doesn’t take memory cards and I have no idea the battery life. But I bet this camera would be fun.

Photography article

Sunday, January 4th, 2004

Interesting article:
“Traditional photography is fading from the picture”
I doubt film will die completely.
I also doubt that ‘real’ photography will die. Depending on your opinion, you can do ‘real’ photography with digial SLR’s, which is what I prefer.

Neato! Sunglasses-Camera.

640×480

Tuesday, September 16th, 2003

What a neat website: 640×480.net It’s a website portfolio of photos taken w/ a 640×480 camera (a very low resolution, cheap digital camera, even cheaper and lower quality than the Pencams). The photos are very artistic. Just goes to show, you don’t need an expensive camera to make nice pix! Really, this site is worth a look.

New tinycam pulled

Thursday, August 7th, 2003

I updated the entry “Inexpsive Digicam” because the camera mentioned has since been pulled due to alot of problems.

Add a self-timer to your cam

Sunday, August 3rd, 2003

Add a self-timer to your disposeable camera” it says. M has been looking for a way to add a self-timer to a tinycam so that he can strap it to a kite and then have it take a photo from above. This might do it.

Amazing Mars/Moon photo

Sunday, August 3rd, 2003

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Mars is getting closer to earth than it has in 50,000 years or so. Also, there was recently an occultation of Mars and the Moon (where one thing passes over another). Have a look at this amazing photo taken in south Florida:
