Blah

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

Stayed up late, slept late. Went for sushi. Then got Pumpkin Spice Lattes drive-thru at Starbucks and took them to my mom’s and we hung out, talked, and I doodled in my Moleskine. Then M. came over and hung out after work. We came home, cooked dinner, and I took a couch-nap (my favorite thing to do). I got up, had coffee, and now I have a stomach ache. Ich. I’m downloading the pix off my Nikon S6 via wifi, and also via wifi, uninstalling and reinstalling Shozu because all of a sudden today it decided to crash every time I tried to load it. [edited to add: and now the install is crashing too, yayyyyy.] I’m tired, but since I feel like I didn’t DO anything today, I don’t want to go to bed just yet. And so the cycle repeats.

update: Uninstalling and reinstalling shozu seemed to do the trick.  yay.  :)

Shozu Oops

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

I hate how when I am trying to take pictures w/ my phone (nokia n80), shozu keeps popping up to ask if I want to save to fickr. The popup stops me from taking more pictures, so I am missing shots! I hate that. Apparently, it’s also causing me to accidentally send photos to the web, I guess I don’t know I’m hitting “send to shozu” as I’m trying to close the damn popup. I am not sure if this is an issue w/ the phone or the shozu software. That said, I just today found out there is a new version of shozu, so I am going to try that out. Again, not sure if that issue is w/ the phone or shozu. I’m loving shozu, if I can just keep from accidentally using it. I keep posting blank pictures: see here. Seeing as how I often take goof-pictures just to be funny and then delete them, such as pictures of the inside of my mouth or somebody’s butt, I REALLy don’t need to be accidetanlly shozu-ing pictures to the web! LOL!

Syncing palm pilot handheld pda with Nokia N80 / Nokia PC Suite:

Ok, the final process that worked for me was:

1) export the palm calendar to a .dba file

2) import that .dba file into yahoo calendar online

3) *use intellisync (free, from yahoo) to sync my palm w/ Yahoo Calendar. (this step is *optional, I guess, if doing it all at once).

4) export the calendar from yahoo calendar to a .csv file.

5) import the .csv file into microsoft outlook

6) and then set the nokia pc suite to sync w/ outlook.

Now that I’m bald and bloody. But at least it’s done.

kw: sync palm pilot pda, palm os, with nokia pc suite, series 60, nokia n80, via microsoft outlook, using yahoo intellisync, .csv file, .dba file, yahoo calendar.

Losing my mind

Still battling to get my palm calendar onto the new nokia phone.

Seemed I just had to sync palm w/ outlook, then sync outlook w/ phone and voila.

BUT NOOOOOOOOO.

” To synchronize a Palm Pilot with Outlook, you must have both the Palm desktop software and Chapura PocketMirror software installed.”, and THAT software is FIFTY DOLLARS! F*CK THAT. Thats nice. TO USE IT ONCE?

All I want is to get my palm calendar onto my series 60 Nokia N80. But apparently that’s too much to ask.

And we can put men on the moon…………..

Bald.

Pulling my hair out.

I have the new Nokia N80 and it’s very advanced, and so for the first time I am considering using the phone as my primary organizer instead of my palm.  I LOVE MY PALM, I have a Sony Clie UX50 which I’ve considered bying extras of because it is the ultimate perfect pda.
But I need to lighten my purse (tech bag, really) cuz I’m having wrist problems. As it is I take two bags to the car, one that stays in the car and has things I use in the car but don’t necessarily need w/ me inside places, such as my “liability camera” (*), my ipod, my umbrella (it rains every day in summer here), etc.

But anyway, the Palm OS will only export the calendar as a .dba file.

The Nokia PC Suite will only sync w/ the calendars of Lotus Organizer and Outlook.

So I don’t want to buy Outlook just to convert one file and never to use it again.

So far I’ve tried Yahoo’s IntelliSync (which created a .csv file) for Yahoo Calendar to sync my palm w/ Yahoo Calendar. Yahoo Calendar will THEN export to Outlook, but again, not sure I want to install Outlook.

IntelliSync worked great.

I can log into Yahoo Calendar using the very advanced web browser on the phone, but that’s a million extra steps that I don’t want to do in a hurry.

I tried importing the .csv file into Google Calendar, and Google Calendar said it was formatted wrong.

So I have a .dba file that Nokia won’t use and a .csv file that is broken and I don’t think Nokia would use anyway, and I don’t have (and am not sure I even want to install) Outlook or Lotus.

Therefore, I am going nuts.

(*) I always have at least one camera w/ me and I like to put the DXG 506v on the dashboard when driving in my neighborhood for several reasons: a) kids playing in a dangerous manner in the streets, b) psycho neighbor and his buddies who have been road-raging me since the last neighborhood annua1 meeting.

Today is Wednesday, right?

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

I got up after only 6 hours sleep to use the bathroom and felt great. Then I slept more and I’ve felt dead-tired ever since I got up. Not sure why that is.

Still LOVING my new Nokia N80 (there is a really good video there about the phone). Searching out N80 forums to read and participate in.

Not much is new except my love affair w/ my new camera phone. LOL!

And I thought my cell phone was KING.

Symian Nokia N80, Palm OS Calendar

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

My sleeping pill is starting to kick in, so I’ll keep this short. I’m still loving the new Nokia N80 I got. Keep seeing people on the web crying that Cingular or whatever carrier doesn’t carry it. JUST GO GET AN UNLOCKED ONE off ebay or wirelessimports.com or wherever! It’s worth it! :) I am totally happy with it. It’s a dream. IT’S DREAMY! It’s wonderful!
I’m liking Shozu, it’s quite handy. Can’t seem to get it to use wifi when wifi is available, so I hope I can figure that out or that they add that feature soon. {edited to add}When not using shozu, I can upload photos using regular email when wifi is available. The phone knows to look for wifi.
One thing I am really trying to figure out is if I can import my Palm OS calendar into the phone. The phone is a great organizer and lately I have not been carrying my PDA because of wrist problems… trying to lighten up my bag, prioritize a bit. I exported my palm os calendar to a .dba file but see no way to import that using the phone’s bluetooth or the Nokia PC Suite on the computer. I just joined some forums so tomorrow I’ll see what I can dig up.

Feeling sleeping-pill-ish. Goodnight.

N80 again

Nokia N80.

I swear this is the best cameraphone. Well, who am I to say what’s the “best” camera phone, but it’s the best cellphone I could find for me. Being a Nokia, everything is intuitive. Even the new menus are intuitive ’cause they are similar while being different. The buttons are intuitive, the T9 predictive text is intuitive (I fly w/ it). The camera is mind-blowing.
I started using Shozu with it, and am still unsure if I like using Shozu. I still can’t figure out why it’s better to use it as opposed to not using it. They have lots of info on their page and I asked an online friend once about it and he said:

“…it eliminates the use of MMS when sending files and it sends the original, uncompressed file. Plus, you can go in and view comments on images you have posted through Shozu and you can change tags, title and description after you’ve uploaded a file.” (thanks Shawn!) :) Also, once you upload a file, if you decide to later send it to another person or blog, you don’t have to re-upload it. Not sure how that works, but that’s one feature.

One thing that kicks ASS about this phone is it has WIFI. So when at home or like today at Crispers for lunch where there is free wifi, I can use the free wifi and save on cellular internet AND send the full-size photo.

Sorry, I’m in love w/ this thing so I keep talking about it. :) OH!!! And I bought it some baby socks today to keep it safe and scratch-free. I find that 6-12 month baby socks fit perfectly. I got some halloween ones as well as a Firefuly cell phone pouch. LOL.

UPDATE: I got an interesting comment from someone at Shozu, better explaining how it works than I could. So be sure to check the comments! :)

My Mind Is Blown.

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

I made it to FedEx on time and got my new phone. I canNOT get over this phone, it is AMAZING! Having used mainly Nokias since day one, moving to a new Nokia is a dream. While some things are different, everything is intuitive because it’s all similar.

Watch the video here. Everything they say it does, it does, and it all works great even tho’ it’s an imported phone. ALL of it. The new browser is kick-ass, the camera is amazing. HOLY COW.

I’m waiting to get the wifi set up so I can move full-res photos over from the camera phone to the computer… don’t want to email such large images from the phone and eat bandwidth.

This phone is blowing my mind. It even says the caller’s name when the phone rings! Icing on the cake: it has a great Sudoku game included, LOL.

AAGH!

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

I can’t belive it, I missed fedex delivering my new 3 megapixel camera phone! Their order confirmation email said they’d take 1-2 days to process and then they’d send me an email w/ a tracking number, and even tho’ I paid for overnight shipping I figured it would not be YET since it could take 1-2 days to process and THEN they’d send a trackng number. But sometime while I slept IT ARRIVED and they only left a door knob slip! I have to go to the airport at 6pm to pick it up, otherwise I have to wait ’till Monday! AAAGH!!!!!!!!! =:o

Friday, camera phones

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

Well I guess this new version is active and the blogsome one will become an “archive”.

It’s Friday. I’m tired, I was up all night. But what’s new, right?

I want to keep working on the site right now, but I really need to get out of the house. Maybe take the pug for french fries and then go to Petco or something.

Oh, I ordered a new 3 megapixel camera phone w/ bluetooth and wifi! I hope it hurries up and gets here! It’s a Nokia N80. Check out the link, there’s a good youtube video about it there.
