Preparing for Linux Lan Party

Saturday, June 11th, 2005

Today’s the Linux Lan party. Check the moblog because email-to-blog on flickr.com isn’t working right for me lately. I must go clean the house, I only have a few hours left before the peeps show up.

Procrastination

Friday, June 10th, 2005

Yeah so anyway we’re having another Linux Lan Party/ Install Fest/ Barbeque tomorrow.

We’ll be having a lot of rain from the tropical storm that is going by in the Gulf, some heavy rain bands will be going over us. I hope the house doesn’t leak AGAIN.

M and I should be cleaning right now, but we’re not. We’re both procrastinating, sitting on the computer, pretending to be too busy to clean. But it has to get done, at least 13 people are coming tomorrow. And I sorta dread it cuz this time KIDS are coming, god knows why. As young as six and a “baby”. Why? Why at a linux lan party, WHY? Whatever. *shakes head*

Hey M, we need to CLEAN!

I made Panang again tonight. It’s my favorite food in the world. Well, so is sushi and indian food, but Panang RULES. I get it so much that the waitress at the Thai restaurant is like “why you always get panang? Panang panang panang panang panang. We have other curries you know.” So I make it at home now too. I got this panang curry paste from the local Thai grocery store, and then they closed down until July so I ordered more online (gotta love the net!) and so tonight we had chicken w/ Taste Of Thai Spicy Thai Peanut Bake (all the grocery stores around here have it in the ‘ethnic foods’ isle) and Panang on Jasmine Rice. I make the Panang by putting the curry paste in the coconut milk, adding a bit of peanut butter, a smidgen of sugar, and some crushed peanutes. GAWD it’s good.

M, we need to CLEAN!

Today was a good day

Wednesday, June 8th, 2005

It’s 2:53am, not 1:53 am. I wonder how long the time’s been off. I have the time zone set right and I don’t see a thing for daylight savings time. Huh.

Today was a good day. I slept in a bit (as usual after having stayed up ’till almost 4am). Took care of “the farm” (2 cats, 2 dogs). Surfed.

Then I went to the mall… [click below to read more]

My Radio Appearance

Sunday, June 5th, 2005

I had completely forgotten that I was going to re-post about this. I originally posted about this on my old blog, the second to last post, actually. (If you want the link to my old blog, just email me for the link. I generally don’t link directly from here. My email addy is on the sidebar.)

Back in March I was invited to do a radio show on blogs for the local FM NPR radio station. It was A BLAST, especially for someone who isn’t normally on radio or tv. I really enjoyed it.

I was one of two guests in the studio to tell the world about blogs. It was on the local FM public radio station. I had a LOT of fun and I really enjoyed it. But since my family listened to the show, I don’t want to put anything on the old blog (keywords) that will cause relatives to type in those search terms into Google and find that (or this) blog. That’s why I won’t link directly to the radio station or the archive of my show. (See, friends and family don’t know about this blog, except for my better half “M”. I keep it away from them so that I can be as open and [brutally] honest as I want to be.)

We talked about blogs, explained what they are, how they’re defined, how there are many different kinds of blogs, etc. I wore my “I’m blogging this.” t-shirt from Think Geek and the host actually pointed that out on the show, which was great since it was radio and not TV.

I was afraid I’d “mess up” and like freeze up, or stutter, or worse- curse… like I did one time on the Planetarium mic. (That’s another story for another day, LOL!) So I didn’t tell many people about it ahead of time. Like this blog, it’s much easier to “talk” to a bunch of strangers when you know that your mother-in-law or gynecologist is listening to you live. :P I could relax and be myself, and now they (and you, if you want) can hear the archived recording and it’s too late for me to screw up.

I didn’t screw up though, yay me. But what I did do was have a lot of fun. I don’t know why, but when I left there I was giggling to myself because it was so fun. I’m such a girl.

I don’t know if it was the thrill of being on the radio as much as it was the thrill of being able to talk tech with the world. I love sharing tech w/ other people. Nothing is more fun to me than to show someone how I can surf literally any website w/ my Palm device from literally anywhere using my bluetooth cell phone and Sony Clie, or sharing my insight on why this or that technology is great or horrible.

So anyway, the radio station has an archive of the radio show online, and also M managed to record it on the computer as well. Email me for the link to the radio show if you would like to listen to me. I really had a lot of fun talking about blogs on the radio. I really did.

What’s today… Wednesday?

Wednesday, June 1st, 2005

I’m falling asleep sitting up. I only got 6 hours of sleep cuz I wasn’t tired last night as usual until like 3am, and then I had to get up cuz we are having our new couch set delivered today and I don’t know what time.

I’m tired, I’m waiting for the new TWIT episode, working on a new website, and wishing I was taking a nap. :)

Sunda, feels like Saturday

Monday, May 30th, 2005

It is so freaking hot out!

We just went for a latenight walk w/ the dogs and even tho’ it’s not “hot” out now, it’s so humid it’s like walking through water. It’s only 74 F out now, but you get back and you’re so WET, sweat is running into your eyes, it’s nuts!

So today, after staying up late last night, we slept in WAY too late. Ate microwave breakfast, went to Mom’s to fix her DSL modem, brought the pug along, then went to Pincher’s, a seafood and wings place where you can bring your dog if you eat outside. It was deathly hot, it was just awful. We won’t be doing that again (eating outside w/ the dog) probably until October.

Then we went to the store and got foodstuffs for dinner… came home, surfed, I fell asleep on the couch for a couple hours. Then we made dinner (rather late), Thai Panang. Man it was good. We’ve been making it alot, but ever since I figured out how to make it at home, it’s so easy and fun, and GOOD.

Then a 40 minute midnight walk w/ the dogs.

Today in the car listened to one of the Leo Laporte KFI radio shows, those are great. I wish I had thought to listen to them before!

I may drag out the Linux For Non-Geeks book tonight. (although arguable I AM a geek!)

Don’t forget to check my moblog and to look me up on IM. I’m trying not to sit around in “away” mode as much. Ever since I told the laptop not to go into sleep mode when the lid was shut (so that I could seed fileson bittorrent), I tend to leave Trillian on in away mode, but that’s dumb. I might as well just disconnect from IM when I’m not on the computer. So anyway, I’m trying to be ON the computer when I’m ON IM.

I’m tired, I should just go to bed “early”. But I just put laundry in and I want to read for a while.

Saturday…. Hmm, long weekend.

Sunday, May 29th, 2005

*YAWN*
On way to bed.
3:15am
Did lots today.
Tired tho’.
Moblogged today.
Slept, thai grocery store, birdie’s pizza, big lots, bought leather couch and loveseat, bought b-day gift for mom, bought gas powered weed eater, bought vegetables, M mowed lawn, I tried out new weed eater, the vibrations made my hands numb… M broke neighbor’s riding lawn mower (not really, the wire was already hanging), he went to Home Depot for parts, I made Panang w/ stuff from the thai grocery store, surfed, went for latenite walk/jpg w/ dogs, watched Napoleon Dynamite again (M’s 1st time tho’), made paratha’s as a 2am snack. Now we’re off to bed.
‘nite

Saturday runaround

blah blah

Tuesday, May 17th, 2005

Day:
slept, sushi, shopped, socks, cat milk, pizza, house contruction, bowling.

I slept in, went for sushi, went shopping, got socks at one store and then more socks at Target, got Cat Milk for kitty at Petco, went for pizza for dinner w/ M., walked through a neat house that is under construction in this new neighborhood nearby, then went bowling w/ some friends.

I got to listen to several of the TWIT episodes today on the ipod. My POOR CAR had not been driven in over a week! I was sick all last week and didn’t drive, and then on the weekend M drives unless we need more room, then we take my car (an Eclipse… his is a Nissan 350z). My poor car was so cold from not being driven. But it’s happy now. I was saving the TWIT episodes for driving in the car. I’m THRILLED to hear these guys together again and get GOOD tech info.

Ok, off to bed, I know it’s only 2:55am, but I’m tired. G’nite.

Sunday, feeling better.

Monday, May 16th, 2005

Thanks to all of you for your recent comments. :)

I’m finally feeling better, not 100% better, but almost. Still have lots of symptoms, but most of them are just milder.

Today we went to the new international airport where they had an open-house, they just opened up a whole new ‘terminal’, but it’s the whole buildings/parking lot, etc. It’ll use the same runway and tower as the old airport, and they’ll demolish the old buildings.

It was insane, SO many people. They had school buses taking people from the parking lot to the terminal. I have not been on a school bus since high school, and that’s longer ago than I’d like to admit! I’m mad though, the new school buses have A/C! We didn’t have that and this is Florida! Now they have a/c, seatbelts, and assigned seats. The doors open automatically, among other things.

The terminal was cool, looks more like a big-city terminal. It was hella busy though, took probably 40 minutes of gridlock to get to the parking lot from the highway. And then you had to get in a line just to leave the building, and I think we were in line for 30 minutes, 30 minutes (!) to stand in a line to get back on a school bus.

Too bad it was so busy (too bad they only did the open house for one day, dumb asses) because they had behind the scenese tours of the baggage area and I think security. But THOSE lines were an hour long! It was like freaking Disney World with the lines. Geez.

Then we came home and did this GREAT dinner w/ our neighbors. Our neighbor made Thai food (he made pa nang chicken, and thai rice) and we made Indian food. M made the indian rice, the tandoori chicken, and I heated up the fresh samosas that the local indian grocery store has each Saturday, and also fried up some paratha. mmmMMMMmm, it was an awesome feast!

Now it’s late and I’m tired and I should be in bed. I don’t know why I always blog real late at night when I’m overtired. I dread tomorrow because I’m behind in my web design work from being sick for a week. Ugh.

-blank stare-

Monday, May 9th, 2005

I’m tired, and I’m fighting some bug. Got chest congestion and a cough. But I’m taking tons of vitamins and herbs, so I’m crossing my fingers.

The thing w/ M’s dog attacking a lady is a long story, and I don’t really want to get into it. She says she’s fine, I’m just scared in such a sue-happy society. I think the dog was just in protection mode because at the time I was upset (my pug had slipped out of his collar) and this lady came too close. There’s more to it than that, I’m just not in the mood to relive it by writing about it.

Saturday we got 3 hours of sleep. Stayed up ’till 4am and then M got a work call at 7am and I could not get back to sleep. I can’t remember Saturday. What’s wrong with me? This is scary!

WHAT DID I DO ON SATURDAY?

oh.

Went to the vet’s to talk to the vet about M’s dog’s behavior. Then I FORGET (something’s really wrong with me!), we napped in the guest bedroom cuz the sheets were in the wash, we went for Thai for dinner, then to Mom’s to fix her computer and cell phone.

Today we slept in a bit, then went to a church thing (long story, I’m not a church person), went to a furniture store, lunch, nap, mother’s day dinner at seafood restaurant, home, tv, computer, walk dogs.

My brain is shot. Something’s wrong with me. I am going to bed and I am going to sleep all day tomorrow.

idunno….

Tonight

Thursday, May 5th, 2005

Here I am up late again.

M’s asleep in the guest bedroom cuz he has to get up very early tomorrow, earlier than usual. This way I don’t wake him when I go to bed and he doesn’t wake me in the morning.

I started wondering what ‘photography’ I had laying around in print form. So I went to my trunk of years and years worth of photos and skimmed. Mostly is just snapshots, not photography per se. I know there’s some neat photos in there, like some insanely firey sunsets I got w/ the old Canon AE-1 program black body 35mm slr.

I stumbled on some memories too, and idunno why but it always takes me by surprise. Like dumb-ass first boyfriend, other ex-boyrfriend, planetarium pictures (I worked there for ten years).

Now I have Pink Floy’d comfortably numb in my head. Is it cuz I was lost in my brain for half an hour? Is it cuz of the pix of my 1st boyfriend who was really into PF? Is it cuz of the planetarium pix and we ran the pink floyd laser show more than any other? Who knows.

So much life in this house. Mike snoring so loud I can hear him in the living room (and he’s in the room above upstairs), I can hear Tabby Kitty scratching at her water bowl which makes a “tink! tink!” sounds, The Pug is chewing on a rawhide stick under my chair and it banging into the computer chair, The Turkish Angora cat is upstair scratching on her cardboard scratch ring and I can hear “thump! thump! thump!” through the floor (she’s above me). M put a new cardboard center in it today and she’s been going at it like MAD for hours.

Today

Wednesday, May 4th, 2005

My ears are ringing. Is it health? The weather? Is someone talking about me?

I think I hear thunder, but it just may be the cat upstairs going nuts running and pouncing into things and sliding.

No, I think I hear that AND thunder outside.

I actuallY DO hear M snoring and he is in the room UPSTAIRS from me. WOW.

The Pug is at my feet, he is snoring too.

I got up this morning, went to an eye appointment, met mom at Rooms To Go to look at rugs, went to Steak and Shake, came home, took care of dogs, went back out to go to Linux Meetup at local restaurant. Meetup was fun, nerdy, fun. Came home, surfed, played w/ cat, dogs, surfed, chatted w/ a person from China on IM that I met thru Flickr. Flickr is cool.

Yesterday I went for Thai food for lunch, then ran by the property manager’s office to drop off some materials (I’m doing a website for them), chatted w/ our property manager (for our neighborhood), she’s so nice, parked next to an identical car to mine (my color is not that common).

I’m tired. I’m going to take an aspirin and go to bed.

Sleep

Wednesday, April 27th, 2005

That d*mn “bored meeting” and it’s post-meeting nasty-email send-athon have got me so wired I’m not tired enough to go to bed and it’s 2am.

I used to always stay up ’till 2, sometimes later. But I’m trying to get a more “normal” routine going.

Doc gave me some sleeping pills to help me GET to sleep, they knock you out for 4 hours. I never had trouble sleeping thru the night before, but when I take these, I wake up exactly 4 hours later and stare at the clock for two hours.

I just popped one anyway, cuz otherwise I’ll be up ’till 4am.

They are EXPENSIVE! Like $50 AFTER insurance pays their part.

Because of that I don’t take them daily, just as needed. The label says “as needed” anyway. I need them tonight. They’ll wear off just about the time M’s dog, the Eskie, wakes up and decides we all should be awake too.

It’s thunering and lightning and raining out now.

A good Monday

Monday, April 25th, 2005

Today was a great kind of day. Slept in, went downstairs in my pj’s and did some work on a website. I did about an hours work on this site on Friday and an hours worth of work this morning, yet to the untrained eye one would think I’d been working on it a week. Then I took myself to a Thai restaurant for Panang chicken for lunch, came back home, and spent some time surfing and playing w/ the dog. Then my UPS package came a day early (WHEN DOES *THAT* EVER HAPPEN!?) and I then gleefully spent the early evening playing with my new toy. Then we went out to Best Buy (got some rechargeable batteries), Circuit City, and then Dairy Queen. I love days like this.

Linux Party at our house today

Saturday, April 23rd, 2005

We had a linux party at our house today; grilled out burgers and dogs and basically had an install-fest.

Bees

Saturday, April 23rd, 2005

There’s a HUGE swarm of bees in the neighbor’s tree. They called a beekeeper and he’s gonna come and get them. I’m going to get some pictures and maybe video, which I’ll post here later. Neat!

Tuesday thoughts

Tuesday, April 12th, 2005

Yesterday was hectic. Had a doctor’s appt in the a.m., and then phyiso in the afternoon. In between I had lunch w/ mom, so that didn’t really leave enough time to go back home. I hate those days where all I do is run around.

But in a way I’m glad the doctor’s appt is out of the way. He upped my happy pills to a dose that is more average. Apparently I was on a low dose, and he fully expected me to react the way I did and was anticipating raising the dose. So I’m glad that I’m reacting as expected.

I also had a talk w/ him about something that happened last time I was at his office that was really bad. Some of the nurses were acting very unprofessionally, talking about me and my embarassing problem in the hallway so loudly that I (and god knows who else) could hear right through the closed door.

I told him about this and he was not only very understanding and kind, but informed me that this particlar nurse had already been fired for doing just as I was reporting. Apparently she did that alot, and she’s now fired fired fired. Good. Bitch.

My doctor is really great. Never rushes me, never seems in a hurry, is real kind.

I continue to be exhausted all the time. :( The doc gave me some pills to help me get to sleep, since I don’t have trouble staying asleep, it’s just getting to sleep. They last 4 hours. Well, last night, exactly 4 hours after taking the pill, I woke up and had trouble getting back to sleep for the next two hours. *shakes head* I’m a freaking basket case, man. If that keeps happening, I’ll have to call and ask for a pill that’ll help me sleep thru the night. These freaking pills were $50 AFTER insurance paid half the cost! For 30 pills!

Today was a day off for me, so I slept in, on purpose, and then lazed around and enjoyed doing nothing; surfing, watching tv, cuddling w/ dog. Around 4-ish I layed down cuz I was drowsy and when M got home, I felt even worse; more tired, just felt like shit. I think that sometimes when I nap, my blood sugar drops, and I wake up shakey, feeling the way that I do when I skip meals.

I need to figure out my problem. Maybe when I “feel drowsy”, it’s really my blood sugar declining and maybe I need to eat instead of nap? I just try NOT to eat though, because I’m trying to lose weight. Vicious cycle, vicious cycle. *sigh* Idunno.

Saturday, dog park, hockey game

Sunday, April 10th, 2005

Today I got up early (10am, lol) so that I’d be awake when the neighbor came by to give me their key so I can house-sit.

Then we went to the dog park. The Eskie starts fights with other dogs and The Pug just wants to lay around and chew sticks. So that was not really fun.

Then we went for lunch, took a nap, and went to a hockey game. I took lots of pictures but haven’t downloaded them from the camera yet. My new laptop doesn’t seem to see cameras that are supposed to show up as a drive. I have to figure out why.

Then we came home and went for almost an hour walk w/ the dogs. Then I watched “City Of Angels” and then M and I started to watch “What the #$*! Do We Know!?” but he kept falling asleep! I don’t want to watch it alone because he’d REALLY enjoy it, but he always does that. Falls asleep in front of the tv. Sometimes even at the computer.

*sigh*

It’s 3:20am and I’m not tired.

Tuesday

Wednesday, April 6th, 2005

The time change is really messing with me. I’m not sure WHY it is. I mean, my bed time changes by several hours each night, and so does my waking time. I don’t have a set bed time or wake time. So why a one-hour time shift is messing with me so much is a real mystery.

#flickrWords .flickrImg { float: left; }

LLetter INNuCIMG3708

Tonight was the Linux Meetup. Find one in your area: linux.meetup.com Linux talk, tech talk, and food. Fun!

M and I are probably going to host a linux/lan party at our house in a couple weeks. An install-party, barbeque, etc. Should be some geeky fun!

Typical

Tuesday, April 5th, 2005

It’s so typical of me to lay around all evening and then run around like nuts at night taking care of chores. M and I watched two movies (*) this evening and then around 1am I/we did laundry, put a small amount of laundry away, did the flea treatment on 3 of the 4 animals, did The Pug’s ear drops, pilled the cat (the tabby gets thyroid pills twice a day). Last night I chose this hour to change the litterbox and vacuumn around it. It’s 1:38am and now I feel like crap, tired, headachy, sweaty and I should be in bed but now I want to unwind with a cold drink and wind down for bed. I can’t got bed NOW or I’ll toss ‘n turn all night. I shoulda did the chores first and then the movies later… but I wanted us to relax cuz poor M did alot of work after work: went to the store, got dinner, made dinner, edged the lawn, walked the dog. He deserved to relax after all that.

Enough babbling, chat later. *Yawn!*

* The Grudge (sucked) and Goodbye Lenin (‘salright).

Yard Work

Sunday, April 3rd, 2005

Man, we worked our butts off today. We slept in and then we went to Home Depot with The Pug and got tons of mulch, replacement bushes, and then we came home and weeded, trimmed, used the trimmer, mowed, mulched and much more. I’m wiped out but the place looks aLOT better.

Happy Saturday

Saturday, April 2nd, 2005

Not much to say. Went to dinner w/ family on Thursday night, that was nice. Friday night we went out for Indian food (yum!) and then to TarJay. We were supposed to go to a pug meetup this morning but it was raining hard so we didn’t go. Now we are laying around waiting for word on the Pope, playing with The Pug, and trying to decide what to do with the rest of our day.

Late Sat Nite

Sunday, March 27th, 2005

Eating: Cinnamon Toast
Drinking: 7-up Plus
Listening: The “Dance” station on satellite.
Thinking: How tired I am, how hot it was today.

Tiring Saturday

Sunday, March 27th, 2005

I’m frickin’ tired. The Eskie woke our butts up at 7:30 this morning and then we ran around all day and it was SO hot out. The news said it was only 85 today, but it felt like summer when it’s in the mid to upper 90′s! Very humid, my jeans felt like wet sacks hanging off me.

We took The Pug and went to Home Depot, then PetSmart, then Petco, then to Crispers for lunch, then to Coldstone Creamery for ice cream, then home.

Days like this it seems I can’t get cool enough. I can’t get enough of cold air blowing in my face from fans or the a/c. I hate the heat. I should NOT be living in the south. Ack!
